Pogba's income has decreased significantly since his return to playing. |
Paul Pogba is going through one of the biggest turning points of his career, not through high-profile signings, but through trade-offs.
Joining Monaco after serving a doping ban, the French midfielder was no longer a "blockbuster" signing in the transfer market, but rather a gamble both professionally and financially.
According to L'Equipe , Pogba earns less than £44,000 per week at Monaco. This is significantly lower than the approximately £290,000 per week he previously earned at Manchester United.
Notably, Pogba's current income isn't even enough to put him in the top 10 highest-paid players at the club. Players like Denis Zakaria and Eric Dier are earning around £72,000 per week, while Ansu Fati surpasses Pogba with £55,000 per week.
This decision clearly shows Pogba's priority: he wants to revive his career rather than maximize his income. However, the reality on the pitch hasn't been in his favor.
Since the start of the season, Pogba has only played a mere 30 minutes across three appearances as a substitute. Persistent fitness issues have prevented him from meeting the demands of playing in Ligue 1.
Nevertheless, there are positive signs. In a recent friendly match, Pogba scored with his familiar long-range shot, reminiscent of a midfielder who was once world- class. But that was just a fleeting moment, not enough to confirm whether he can return to his peak form.
Pogba's future therefore remains uncertain. Despite having 18 months left on his contract, Monaco has not ruled out the possibility of terminating it early if the situation does not improve. The club's management acknowledges that they understand the risks of signing a player who has been out of action for so long.
