Having won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup, Rodriguez still carries high expectations from the fans. |
James Rodriguez continues to worry fans after being hospitalized immediately following the friendly match against France. The Colombian Football Federation confirmed that the 34-year-old midfielder suffered from severe dehydration and required medical monitoring for 72 hours.
Rodriguez featured in the match held in Landover (USA), where Colombia lost 1-3. However, he didn't make much of an impact and was substituted in the 63rd minute. The former Real Madrid star's performance was deemed lackluster and unconnected to the team's overall play.
Immediately after the match, Rodriguez showed symptoms of severe dehydration and was taken to a hospital in Minnesota, where he plays for Minnesota United, for treatment and recovery. According to the Colombian Football Federation, this condition was unrelated to the player's previous injuries.
Minnesota United have stated that Rodriguez is recovering well, but have not yet confirmed his availability for the weekend's match against LA Galaxy. Further updates will be provided in the coming days.
Since joining the MLS team in February, Rodriguez has only played 39 minutes due to persistent fitness issues. This has led experts to question coach Nestor Lorenzo's decision to use him in recent friendly matches, especially since the player is not yet in top form.
The 2026 World Cup is fast approaching, and Colombia is in Group K alongside Uzbekistan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Portugal. In this context, Rodriguez's fitness has become a cause for concern. Although no longer at the peak of his form, he remains a crucial player in the squad, both in terms of skill and experience.
Having won the Golden Boot at the 2014 World Cup, Rodriguez still carries high expectations from fans. However, to participate in the upcoming major tournament, the prerequisite for him right now is not form, but rather a sufficiently stable physical condition.
