Sancho's current contract with MU expires this summer. However, German newspaper Bild reports that the "Red Devils" management are willing to activate a one-year extension clause to maintain the upper hand in negotiations.
This move stems from a desire to preserve the value of the player who cost £73 million when he moved to Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund in 2021. After several disappointing seasons, MU does not want to see Sancho leave the team on a free transfer or be sold off for a low fee.
Despite no longer being part of Old Trafford's long-term plans, Sancho is still attracting interest from Dortmund. The Bundesliga club is reportedly considering bringing the English player back to Signal Iduna Park for a third time in his career.
Sancho himself seems eager to return to the environment where he shone brightly. During his time at Dortmund, the winger born in 2000 was considered one of the best young talents in Europe.
However, Dortmund still has certain doubts about Sancho's ability to regain his peak form. His declining performance over the past two seasons has significantly reduced his value, making the German club hesitant to accept Manchester United's transfer request.
Last season, Sancho continued to disappoint during his loan spell at Aston Villa under manager Unai Emery. The English star only started 9 Premier League games and scored 1 goal. He was frequently benched and unable to compete for a starting place.
