Alibaba International held the final event of the 2024 Global E-commerce Challenge in Hangzhou, China, concluding the Global E-commerce Challenge (GEC) 2024 competition.
Launched in 2021, the competition aims to attract and connect young talents globally to build the future of e-commerce. The 2024 edition focuses on exploring ways to enhance the online shopping experience through artificial intelligence (AI), targeting university students and recent graduates.
This year's competition attracted significant interest from over 1,000 individuals across more than 500 teams, representing regions including Europe, the Americas, East Asia, and Southeast Asia. After two rigorous selection rounds, 11 teams with a total of 39 contestants advanced to the global finals held in Hangzhou to compete for the top three positions.
Among the participating teams, the energetic presence of Vietnamese students is noteworthy, with the TORUDOVI team from the Ho Chi Minh City campus of the Foreign Trade University and the International University presenting their AI-Gift solution. The project aims to create a personalized online gift-giving experience using artificial intelligence (AI), providing features like LazPresent and LazFriends to enhance interaction between givers and recipients, and reached the final round.
The CrashCourse team, comprised of students from Singapore Management University, won first place for their innovative approach and outstanding teamwork, taking home a $10,000 travel voucher as a prize.
The Echelon Group, comprised of students from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland, College Park; and the Saturdays, comprised of students from Bandung Institute of Technology, won second and third place respectively, with prizes of travel vouchers worth $5,000 and $3,000.
