Unlocking the potential of the sea and islands.
Quang Tri currently boasts a coastline nearly 200km long. This is one of the coastal areas with rich tourism development potential in the North Central region, featuring many beautiful beaches, clear blue water, fine white sand, pristine landscapes, and a diverse coastal ecosystem.
Besides its natural resources, Quang Tri also preserves many unique cultural values formed over hundreds of years of coastal communities' residences. In addition, the system of revolutionary historical relics and "red addresses" associated with the nation's aspiration for peace are also special resources for developing distinctive tourism products, connecting the sea and islands with historical, cultural, and community-based tourism experiences.

According to Mr. Ho Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in Quang Tri's development orientation, marine tourism and services are identified as one of the characteristic types of tourism, making an important contribution to the overall development of the tourism industry.
“The adjusted Quang Tri provincial planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, identifies and positions Quang Tri as the most attractive tourist destination in Vietnam, a center for adventure tourism in the Asian region, and one of the distinctive beach resort tourism centers in the Central region. Quang Tri is also positioned as a destination of aspiration for peace, associated with unique and distinctive images that reflect its identity,” Mr. Hoan said.
In particular, after expanding its administrative boundaries, Quang Tri has many advantages because in recent years, coastal tourist destinations such as Cua Tung, Cua Viet, Hai Ninh, Nhat Le, Bao Ninh, and Con Co have increasingly attracted a large number of tourists. Many infrastructure projects, resorts, and tourism services have been invested in, gradually improving the quality of service and the competitiveness of the destination.
Forming tourism linkages
One of the key orientations identified by Quang Tri province for its marine economy is: "Developing the marine tourism and service industries in a comprehensive, professional, and high-quality manner, linked to the effective exploitation of natural, cultural, and historical values of the coastal region, gradually connecting coastal tourism spaces, and forming clusters of branded and highly attractive marine and island tourism centers such as Bac Trach (Da Nhay) - Dong Thuan (Quang Phu) - Dong Hoi (Nhat Le, Bao Ninh) - Ninh Chau (Hai Ninh) - Cua Tung - Cua Viet - Con Co." This is not only about geographical linkage but also about building a unified tourism space with diverse products, services, and experiences.
While Da Nhay Beach in Bac Trach commune stands out with its magnificent natural rock formations, Quang Phu sand dunes in Dong Thuan ward attract visitors with their sprawling sand hills; Nhat Le and Bao Ninh beaches in Dong Hoi ward are modern seaside resorts. Hai Ninh beach in Ninh Chau commune boasts pristine beauty; Cua Tung, Cua Viet, and Con Co Island in southern Quang Tri possess unique values in terms of nature, history, and island culture. Connecting these destinations will give tourists more choices for experiences within a single trip.
According to Ho Van Hoan, Deputy Director of the Quang Tri Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the formation of interconnected clusters will create a complete tourism product chain, contributing to extending the length of stay and increasing spending by tourists. Linking coastal and island tourism centers will create a diverse and synchronized tourism space in terms of accommodation, food, recreation, and entertainment services. This will also create favorable conditions to attract strategic investors to implement large-scale projects, enhancing the competitiveness of the destination.
“To realize this orientation, the province is striving to invest in infrastructure, complete the coastal transportation system, and connect routes from the mainland to Con Co Island and between tourism centers; develop distinctive, multi-experience tourism products ranging from exploring nature, culture, and history combined with coastal tourism services; improve the quality of coastal services and tourist accommodation; strengthen regional linkages and linkages between coastal localities; and promote tourism promotion and marketing…”, Mr. Hoan said.
The Resolution of the First Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030, sets the goal of attracting 13-15 million tourists to Quang Tri by 2030, contributing approximately 10% to the province's GRDP. Of this, coastal and island tourism will account for a large proportion and play a central role in the tourism development strategy.
Developing in a professional and modern direction.
To effectively exploit the potential of its seas and islands, Quang Tri province is focusing on implementing a comprehensive set of solutions to develop marine tourism and services in a professional, modern, and sustainable manner.
First and foremost, it is necessary to strengthen the investigation and assessment of marine and island tourism resources; attract investment resources to develop coastal tourism infrastructure; improve the quality of human resources; and diversify tourism products and services for tourists.
Priority tourism types include beach resort tourism; coastal ecotourism, water sports, health and wellness tourism, community tourism, night tourism, MICE tourism (a type of tourism combining conferences, seminars, exhibitions, event organization, and incentive travel for employees or partners), and experiential activities related to the lives of coastal residents. Alongside resource exploitation, Quang Tri province places special emphasis on protecting the marine ecosystem, preserving and promoting tangible and intangible cultural values.
According to Mr. Ho Van Hoan, with its advantageous resources, favorable geographical location, and investment from the central and provincial governments, the prospects for making coastal and island tourism a key growth driver for Quang Tri are very high. “The policies and strategies for developing the marine economy are being implemented comprehensively. Transportation and tourism infrastructure are increasingly being improved; coastal tourism spaces are gradually being connected. This is an important foundation for Quang Tri to effectively exploit its marine and island resources and build tourism into a leading economic sector in the future,” Mr. Hoan affirmed.
