Alibaba upgrades AI model to compete with Microsoft and Amazon

Alibaba has just launched the latest version of its artificial intelligence model Tongyi Qianwen 2.0, trained with huge amounts of data to compete with Amazon and Microsoft.

Alibaba calls Tongyi Qianwen 2.0 a “significant upgrade over its predecessor,” which was introduced in April 2023. It is the latest version of a large language model (LLM) trained on massive amounts of data and forms the basis for generative AI applications like OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

Alibaba is the largest cloud computing company by market share in China, and is trying to catch up with Amazon and Microsoft abroad.

Tongyi Qianwen 2.0 “demonstrated superior performance in understanding complex instructions, writing copy, reasoning, memorizing, and preventing hallucinations,” Alibaba said in a press release. Hallucinations here mean that the AI presents inaccurate information.

Additionally, Alibaba also releases AI models designed for applications in specific industries and uses such as legal and financial advice, as it targets businesses.

Alibaba also announced the GenAI “Service Platform,” which allows companies to build generative AI applications using their own data. This is seen as a solution to concerns about data from publicly innovative AI products being accessible to third parties.

At the Alibaba Cloud Summit 2023, the Chinese company said it will deploy artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots across all of Alibaba’s products from corporate communications to e-commerce in the “near future.”

Alibaba is now the largest cloud computing company by market share in China, and is trying to catch up with Amazon and Microsoft abroad.
