TPO – In the days leading up to Christmas, the Christmas market in Da Nang has fallen into a quiet state, in contrast to the bustling atmosphere of previous years. Shops and stalls selling decorations, Christmas trees and gifts on the streets in the city center are gloomy and empty of customers.
According to records, since the beginning of December, on the streets specializing in selling Christmas decorations such as Hung Vuong, Le Duan, Dien Bien Phu, Trung Nu Vuong, Phan Chau Trinh... Da Nang city has been flooded with red, preparing for the approaching Christmas season. |
However, according to many shop owners and stalls selling Christmas decorations, purchasing power has dropped sharply this year, although prices have not increased compared to last year. Large decorative items such as Christmas trees and Santa Claus statues have not attracted customers as expected. |
Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc - a Christmas decoration salesman on Hung Vuong Street - said: This year's goods are abundant, diverse in types, colors, and materials, with many promotional programs and discounts from 10% to 20% to stimulate consumer demand, but still few people ask to buy. |
According to Mr. Phuc, due to the difficult economic situation, people are tightening their spending and prioritizing more essential needs. Partly due to changes in shopping habits as many people switch to online shopping, it also affects the number of visitors to traditional stores. |
This year, large decorative items such as Christmas trees or Santa Claus statues have not received much attention from customers. Instead, small products such as balls, tinsel, bows, colored paper and small souvenirs, with prices ranging from 30,000 to nearly 200,000 VND, are more popular. |
Customers only come to buy small, cheap items. |
“I only bought a few small decorations to create a Christmas atmosphere, and the rest I used old things. The economy is tight this year so I don’t dare spend much,” said Lan, a customer. |
“My store imported many new and beautiful items. All items are discounted to stimulate people to shop during Christmas, but customers are very few,” said Ms. Hoang Nha Ka, owner of Khai Tam bookstore in Hai Chau district. |
Some shop owners expect the number of customers to increase during the days leading up to the holidays, contributing to the bustling atmosphere of the Christmas season. |
