The joy stemmed not only from the fact that the people received a new plot of land, but also from the beginning of a journey to build a home, stabilize their lives, and open up new hopes after a long period of waiting. During the lottery for resettlement plots, a particularly touching image was that of Mr. Vo Ngoc Cao, a resident of An Thoi who had difficulty traveling, being proactively brought a ballot box by local officials so that he could exercise his right to choose his plot.
That moment was ordinary, but it demonstrated care and a spirit of service to the people through concrete actions. Holding the ballot, Mr. Cao couldn't hide his joy. He shared that what moved him was not only receiving a new plot of land, but also the dedication of the local government in always creating favorable conditions for the people, especially those in difficult circumstances.
Mr. Cao's joy reflects the shared sentiment of many households during this land allocation phase. The Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone has completed the lottery and allocated 215 out of 325 resettlement plots planned for this phase. Of these, 69 plots were allocated in the Bai Dat Do area and 146 plots in the An Thoi resettlement area were allocated by lottery. The encouraging aspect is that this progress is nearly a month faster than initially planned.

For many residents, one month isn't a long time, but for families renting, waiting for land to build houses, or trying to establish their livelihoods, it's a precious period. Mr. Pham Van Nam, a resident of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, said: “Previously, people were informed that land allocation would begin around August, so receiving land in June was a surprise and a joy for everyone. Having land early means we can prepare materials, build houses, and settle down sooner than expected.” Mr. Nguyen Van Manh, a resident of An Thoi, shared: “People are excited because they will soon have a stable place to live.”
Behind the joy of the people lies the great effort of the local government in overcoming each difficulty of the resettlement work. According to Tran Minh Khoa, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone, the need for resettlement is great while the land fund cannot fully meet it, therefore land clearance and the construction of resettlement areas must be implemented simultaneously.
Difficulties continue to mount as the construction of resettlement areas requires additional land clearance work. However, with strong determination, the projects are being accelerated according to the principle of "completing each completed section as it's put into use." Currently, all four resettlement areas invested in by the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone are being urgently implemented. Many items have been partially completed and are ready to serve residents who will draw lots to receive land plots and build houses. Local leaders said that from now until the beginning of July, they will hold lotteries for approximately 200 more land plots to alleviate housing pressure for residents and meet the local development requirements.
Resettlement has never been just about handing over land; it's also about ensuring people have a better, or at least equal, new life. Therefore, each plot of land handed over at the right time not only has material value but also demonstrates the government's commitment to supporting the people in building a new life. By completing the resettlement process nearly a month ahead of schedule, Phu Quoc has not only met its administrative targets but, more importantly, has brought confidence and peace of mind to hundreds of households eagerly awaiting their new homes.
In the development journey of Phu Quoc Island, perhaps no achievement is more meaningful than the fact that its people have been able to settle down and confidently build their future on their new land.
