Leveraging advantages

An Giang is an important trading hub with Cambodia and other countries in the Mekong sub-region, so the Government has chosen the An Giang Border Economic Zone as one of eight important border economic zones prioritized for investment in the coming time; transforming it into a multi-sectoral, multi-field integrated economic zone, including: industry - trade - services - tourism - logistics - urban development and agriculture, forestry, and fisheries.

From the Khanh Binh National Border Gate to Phnom Penh (Cambodia) is only about 80km. To maximize this potential and advantage, the province has received investment from the Government for the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway project, connecting with the Tran De International Seaport (Soc Trang province), National Highway N1 and the Chau Doc bridge (connecting with Dong Thap and Kien Giang provinces). Long Xuyen City is more than 40km from Can Tho Airport. My Thoi Port, part of the national seaport system, can accommodate ships with a tonnage of up to 10,000 tons.

Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, Ho Van Mung, received and worked with investors from the Khanh Hoa - Saigon Business Club.

Under these conditions, An Giang is a central location for three major cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, and Phnom Penh. In the coming period, investment will continue in sections connecting the expressway to the Tinh Bien and Khanh Binh border gates, linking with the Vinh Xuong International Border Gate, and combining with intra-provincial routes along the vertical and horizontal axes to create a seamless and smooth transportation network to industrial zones, tourist destinations, urban areas, commercial and service areas, river ports, and raw material regions. This will help An Giang expand its reach, create momentum for socio-economic development, and provide an advantage in attracting investment.

Through persistent efforts, proactive initiatives, creativity, and a spirit of self-reliance and self-improvement, the Party Committee and people of An Giang have achieved great and comprehensive achievements, with the economic structure shifting in a positive direction. Over the past 20 years (2000-2020), the economy has maintained an average growth rate of 7.3% per year, higher than the national average (6.4% per year). Average GRDP per capita increased from 0.65 million VND/year (1990) to 3 million VND/year (1995), 4.5 million VND/year (2000), 15.8 million VND/year (2010), and 46.6 million VND/year (2020).

During the period 2020-2025, the province's economy will continue to develop with an average GRDP growth rate of 6.13% - 6.42% per year; GRDP per capita is estimated to reach approximately 74-75 million VND/person/year (2025). The poverty rate will be around 1.52%. In 2024, GRDP increased by 7.16%, ranking 5th in the Mekong Delta and 38th nationwide. The GRDP size reached 130,135 billion VND, ranking 5th in the Mekong Delta. GRDP per capita reached 66.24 million VND, ranking 12th in the Mekong Delta region. In the first quarter of 2025, the province's GRDP growth reached 7.12%.

Other key projects include: the regional connecting road project; the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway; the expansion and upgrading of Provincial Road 949 (Tinh Bien town, 18.7km long); and the urgent upgrading and expansion of Provincial Road 948 (connecting Tri Ton - Tinh Bien, 16.3km long)...

Attracting investment

The province has been focusing on developing modern new urban areas, unique eco-tourism zones, and key infrastructure projects. In particular, the participation of large businesses and corporations has contributed to the rapid, healthy, and sustainable development of An Giang's real estate market.

The province still has great potential to develop tourism into an important economic sector, making it contribute more significantly to the budget and economic development, especially spiritual tourism, historical tourism, ecological tourism, river tourism, resort tourism, entertainment, community tourism, exploration and experiential tourism. In addition, the province has many preserved heritage sites and traditional cultural values. In 2024, it is expected to welcome 9.1 million tourists; in the first quarter of 2025, it is expected to welcome approximately 4.1 million tourists. The Via Ba Chua Xu festival at Sam Mountain - An Giang has been inscribed by UNESCO as a Representative Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Currently, the province is coordinating the preparation of documents and procedures to submit to UNESCO for recognition of the Oc Eo - Ba The cultural site as a World Heritage site.

T&T Group commenced construction of its first 5-star hotel in An Giang province with a total investment of nearly 2,300 billion VND.

Regarding agricultural economics, the province aims for large-scale development, reduced emissions, application of high technology, cost reduction, and increased value, with the goal of becoming a center for rice and freshwater aquaculture in the Mekong Delta. Besides rice, the province effectively utilizes its advantages in freshwater resources and soil to develop key agricultural products (pangasius fish, vegetables, and fruit trees), along with potential sectors (livestock, edible mushrooms, and medicinal herbs) to supply the food processing industry.

In terms of industrial production, with its favorable geographical location, integrated transportation system, and abundant labor force, An Giang is becoming an attractive destination for investors. The province is focusing on developing key industries such as food processing, seafood processing, mechanical engineering, garment manufacturing, and construction materials. Infrastructure in industrial zones, clusters, and economic zones is receiving investment and is being gradually improved to create clean land for investment attraction.

During the period 2021-2025, the State budget allocated over 329 billion VND to invest in infrastructure for industrial parks and border economic zones. Currently, the province has 5 planned industrial parks with a total natural land area of 857 hectares. The Prime Minister approved the investment policy for the infrastructure development project of the Vam Cong Industrial Park, with a scale of 193 hectares and a total estimated investment of 2,200 billion VND.

Regarding import and export, the province is planned into 3 border economic zones, with a total area of over 30,000 hectares, characterized as multi-sectoral, multi-field integrated economic zones. Currently, several functional sub-zones have been planned for the development of trade, services, logistics, and industrial production, ready to welcome investors to explore and exploit opportunities.

In 2024, the province saw 1,056 newly registered businesses, a 9.3% increase compared to the same period. The total capital injected into the economy in 2024 was VND 8,113 billion. In the first quarter of 2025, 291 businesses registered for establishment with a total capital of VND 1,280 billion; 143 businesses resumed operations; 9 investment applications were received; and the Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy and simultaneously approved the investor for 1 project with a total registered capital of VND 59.1 billion. These figures show that the investment and business environment in An Giang is improving, attracting businesses to invest.

The province is finalizing its development plan, focusing on investing in synchronous technical infrastructure, strongly developing science and technology, and accessing advanced technological levels. Training and developing high-quality human resources, promoting improvements in the investment and business environment, and enhancing competitiveness are top priorities in achieving the province's socio-economic development goals, making An Giang one of the most attractive destinations.

To enhance competitiveness, the province has implemented numerous policies and mechanisms, offered many incentives to attract investment, simplified administrative procedures, and built an administration that serves the people and businesses. In particular, by effectively implementing the motto "Accompanying Businesses," the province has welcomed and worked with major investors such as T-Tech Vietnam Technology Group, the Khanh Hoa - Saigon Business Club, and Wangneng Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. (China). The province has also intensified efforts to find and support investors in surveying locations and gathering information about projects seeking investment, aiming to attract capital, promote strategic cooperation, and ensure sustainable development.

“An Giang is committed to always creating the most favorable conditions for investors when registering and implementing projects in the province; creating favorable conditions for businesses to produce, trade, and invest, and supporting the resolution of difficulties and obstacles. At the same time, we hope that businesses will always develop strongly, achieve even greater achievements, and continue to accompany the province in socio-economic development,” emphasized Ho Van Mung, Alternate Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang Province.

According to the plan, Kien Giang and An Giang provinces will merge to form An Giang province, covering an area of over 9,800 km² and with nearly 5 million inhabitants. With 102 communes and wards, including 3 special economic zones, it is considered the province with the most economic development potential in the Mekong Delta region and significant investment attraction capabilities. An Giang aspires to become a relatively developed province in the Mekong Delta and the country as a whole; a top-tier tourist destination, a leading eco-tourism center; an attractive investment destination for businesses; and a hub for trade in goods and services between the region and Cambodia and other ASEAN countries…
