A report by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), after reviewing more than 500 studies, concluded that animal-based food sources provide "essential nutrients".

This source includes protein, fat, and carbohydrates, as well as iron, calcium, and zinc, which are essential for health and development.

A new study has concluded that a vegan diet is "less healthy" than a diet including meat, eggs, and dairy.

However, these macronutrients and micronutrients are difficult to find "in the necessary quality and quantity" if following a vegan diet, according to the FAO, as reported by the Daily Mail.

They noted that meat, eggs, and dairy are "especially important" for children, young people, and the elderly, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The report indicates that meat, eggs, and dairy provide important nutrients such as high-quality protein, fatty acids, iron, calcium, zinc, selenium, and vitamin B12.

To assess the benefits and risks of consuming animal products, the FAO reviewed more than 500 scientific articles and 250 documents. This is the most comprehensive analytical study to date.

The results showed that foods from land animals provide energy and many essential nutrients, such as protein, fatty acids, and several vitamins and minerals that are less common in other foods, wrote FAO Deputy Director-General, Dr. Maria Helena Semedo, in the report.

The World Health Organization (WHO) says there is clear evidence that processed meat increases the risk of bowel and stomach cancer.
