The home of twin brothers Pham Cong Anh and Pham Cong Nhat (born in 2005) felt warmer during the Lunar New Year of 2024. Local leaders, organizations, and neighbors came to visit, making the two brothers excited and eager to leave for military service.

Upon hearing the news that their two sons had been selected for military service this time, Mr. Pham Cong Tien and Mrs. Bui Thi Luong – the parents of the two boys – were a little worried, but inwardly happy and always smiling when they saw their two sons looking mature in their new military uniforms. Mr. Tien (66 years old) had volunteered to enlist and fought on the southwestern border, the Cambodian battlefield, and the northern border.
He himself was exposed to Agent Orange, leaving him with only 14% of his vision. However, he always encourages and supports his twin sons because "they studied together, grew up together, and are always close, sharing the same interests. Wherever they go and whatever they do, they are always together, ready to support and help each other in everything."
The grandparents said they were very happy that their children had preserved and promoted family traditions and recognized their sacred responsibility to the nation.
Before his two sons left for military service, Mr. Tien repeatedly reminded them: "To be beautiful, you need a mold; to be square, you need a ruler. The military environment will be a great school where you can be challenged, trained, learn, and grow."
Coming from a farming family with limited financial resources , the two brothers enrolled in the Ha Tinh Vocational College after completing junior high school to reduce the financial burden on their parents. Cong Anh studied construction machinery operation, while Cong Nhat studied industrial electricity.
After graduating and taking the entrance exam for jobs at the Formosa Industrial Park (Kỳ Anh town), both friends passed the assessment and were only 3 months short of being the required age. While waiting for their graduation to be deferred, Công Anh got a job at a restaurant in Kỳ Anh town, while Công Nhật got a job in Quảng Trị , earning 7-8 million VND each and helping their parents with expenses.
But upon learning about this year's military recruitment drive, both brothers decided to temporarily set aside their work and volunteer to enlist. The Secretary of the Cam My Commune Youth Union said that their actions have helped spread a sense of responsibility and encouraged young people of military age to better understand their responsibilities to the country.
