Apple helps keep iPhone users safe from the Flipper Zero hacking device.

According to ZDNet , there has been no official statement from Apple regarding the Flipper Zero issue; however, reviews indicate that the bug no longer occurs after iPhones were updated to iOS 17.2, which Apple released not long ago.

Speaking of the compact hacking device Flipper Zero, it has been proven capable of disabling iPhones running iOS 17 and older versions of the platform when they are nearby. Third-party firmware called Flipper Xtreme has enabled the Bluetooth radio module integrated into Flipper Zero to send a large number of connection requests from peripheral devices to all iPhones within its coverage area.

The attack doesn't harm the iPhone in any way; however, users will see a series of Bluetooth connection requests on the screen. This renders other phone functions inoperable. At that point, the only way to stop the attack is to turn off Bluetooth on the iPhone.

Now, with iOS 17.2, users no longer need to perform the aforementioned action because Apple may have resolved the issue. Testing with an iPhone updated to iOS 17.2 and placed near a Flipper Zero device showed that only one pop-up window appeared on the device, which is not enough to cause widespread problems. Apple has not yet commented on this issue, but owners of current iPhones should update to iOS 17.2 as soon as possible.
