With iOS 18.2, the Apple Intelligence AI features require 7GB of storage on the iPhone, nearly double the original amount.
When Apple first introduced Apple Intelligence on the iPhone, the AI features required the device to have a minimum of 4GB of free storage.
However, according to the support page, with iOS 18.2, Apple Intelligence requires 7GB of storage space.
The iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, and all iPhone 16 models support Apple Intelligence, as do Macs and iPads running the M1 chip or later.

In fact, compared to the original version, Apple Intelligence now adds many new features such as Genmoji, ChatGPT, Image Playground, Visual Intelligence... All of these help make the iPhone a more powerful tool for work and entertainment.
Furthermore, to ensure privacy, most AI features run on the device by default. To do this, the device needs to download AI models, which consumes memory.
Apple also warned that the minimum storage requirement will not be fixed but will continue to increase as more features are added in the iOS 18.1 release notes.
However, this is a concern for those using iPhones with 128GB of storage.
Apple Intelligence has been using 5.5% of storage in just a few months. With the iPad Air M1 64GB, that figure is 11%.
It is predicted that iOS 18.4, with its significant changes to Siri, will require more free storage space.
According to Tom's Guide, not everyone wants to sacrifice iPhone storage for AI features.
Therefore, a simple solution would be for Apple to allow users to disable the AI feature and use their iPhones as before.
