According to data from market research firm IDC , Apple's iPhone 17 series is doing well. The company is expected to sell more than 247.4 million smartphones in 2025.
Compared to the same period last year, iPhone sales this year may increase by 6.1%. High demand in China also contributed to this success.
“Apple is expected to set a record in 2025 with sales exceeding 247 million devices, thanks to the resounding success of the latest iPhone 17 series,” said Nabila Popal, Research Director at IDC .
China is one of Apple's major markets. According to IDC , sales of the iPhone 17 series in October and November accounted for more than 20% of the market share, far surpassing its competitors. This caused the analyst firm to raise its forecast for Apple's growth in China in the fourth quarter from 9% to 17%.
For the full year 2025, iPhone sales in China are expected to grow 3% instead of the previously forecast 1% decline. Slow-growing markets such as the US and Western Europe could also reverse, helping Apple reach a new revenue record this year ( $261 billion , up 7.2%).
In October, CEO Tim Cook said Apple could set a revenue record in the next fiscal quarter (ending December), with iPhone revenue alone hitting a record. The company estimated total revenue would increase 10-12% compared to the same period last year.
According to MacRumors , the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro series attracted great attention from users. Meanwhile, iPhone Air sales were not as expected.
In 2026, Apple plans to change its iPhone launch schedule. High-end models such as the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone are expected to launch in September as usual, while the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e are reserved for early 2027.
With the above strategy, IDC predicts that iPhone sales will decrease by 4.2% in 2026. The global memory shortage could limit supply and increase smartphone prices.

Anthony Scarsella, research director at IDC , said manufacturers will face upward pressure on prices as memory components become increasingly limited and expensive.
“Vendors will need to adopt different strategies to protect their market share. While some will inevitably have to raise prices, others can adjust their portfolios, focusing more on expensive, higher-margin models to absorb some of the memory cost impact on the bill of materials (BOM),” Scarsella said.
Mid-range Android smartphone makers could be hit harder as they are in a price-sensitive segment. Total smartphone sales could fall 0.9% in 2026 (previously forecast to rise 1.2%), also due to supply issues and iPhone launch schedules.
This year alone, the market is forecast to grow 1.5% year-on-year (1.25 billion devices), mainly due to the success of the iPhone 17.
