Apple is about to hold its WWDC 2023 event.

WWDC 2023 officially opens at 10:00 AM on June 5th (0:00 AM Vietnam time) at its headquarters in Cupertino, California (USA). Apple is predicted to introduce a "mixed reality" headset, offering both virtual reality and augmented reality technology. If the rumors are true, this will be the company's biggest hardware launch since the Apple Watch in 2015. It will signal a new era for the company and has the opportunity to revolutionize the interaction between humans, computers, and the world around them.

However, headsets are just one of many products that could appear at the event. Apple will showcase a range of software updates for the iPhone and Apple Watch. WWDC 2023 will be livestreamed via Apple's website and YouTube for remote viewing.

Mixed reality headset

CEO Tim Cook has shown interest in augmented reality (AR) for years. Finally, Apple seems ready to let the world know what they're up to.

According to Bloomberg , the new headset, possibly named Reality One or Reality Pro, will use an iOS-like interface, immersive video , and include sensors and cameras that users can control with hand gestures, eye movements, or Siri. The device is also rumored to have an outward-facing screen to display the wearer's facial expressions and eye movements, allowing the person interacting with the wearer to avoid feeling like they're talking to a robot.

It will feature numerous apps for gaming, fitness, meditation, and access to iOS apps such as messaging, FaceTime, and Safari. With FaceTime, the headset will “render the user’s face and body in virtual reality” to create the feeling that both are in the same room, Bloomberg reported.

The decision to introduce the headset at WWDC suggests Apple wants to encourage developers to write applications for the product to increase its appeal to customers, justifying the high price. The company is reportedly considering a $3,000 price tag for the device, significantly higher than competing products, and testing the purchasing power of potential customers amidst a sluggish global economy .

Other companies are struggling to find traction for their devices. For years while Apple developed the product, the tech community shifted its focus from VR to another "hot" technology: artificial intelligence. Nevertheless, Apple's market power could breathe new life into the world of headsets.

Mixed reality devices may not be the only hardware to be showcased at WWDC 2023. Apple also plans to launch a new 15-inch MacBook Air, using the M2 chip. Previously, if users wanted to buy a large-screen laptop from Apple, they only had one option: the more expensive MacBook Pro.

New features for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch

WWDC traditionally focuses on software. Much of the time is dedicated to highlighting changes and upgrades to the iOS and iPadOS operating systems. Last year, Apple overhauled the lock screen and iMessage, so there won't be many noteworthy new features this year.

The focus of iOS 17 is on health features, including the ability to track user mood, eyesight, and more. According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple also launched a new note-taking app. Additionally, when the iPhone is held horizontally, the screen will display widgets such as calendar, weather, and other apps, similar to smart displays currently on the market.

Artificial intelligence is indispensable.

While the focus of the event may be VR, Apple will also want to show people that it's keeping pace with Silicon Valley on artificial intelligence (AI). The company is expected to preview a digital coach service, motivating people to exercise, improve sleep, and manage eating habits. It's unclear how the service will work.

In addition, Apple may demonstrate and expand accessibility tools for iPhones and iPads, including a feature that digitizes users' voices after just 15 minutes of training.
