Apple is about to hold WWDC 2023 event

WWDC 2023 officially opens at 10am on June 5 (0:00 Vietnam time) at the headquarters of Cupertino, California (USA). Apple is expected to introduce a "mixed reality" headset, providing both virtual reality and augmented reality technology. If the rumors are true, this will be the company's biggest hardware launch since the Apple Watch in 2015. It will signal a new era for the company and have the opportunity to revolutionize the interaction between people and computers and the world around them.

However, the headset is just one of many products that could appear at the event. Apple will demonstrate a series of software updates for the iPhone and Apple Watch. WWDC 2023 will be livestreamed on Apple's website and YouTube for remote viewing.

Mixed reality headset

CEO Tim Cook has been showing interest in augmented reality (AR) for years, and Apple finally seems ready to show the world what it's working on.

According to Bloomberg , the new headset, which could be called Reality One or Reality Pro, will use an iOS-like interface, immersive video , and include sensors, cameras for users to control with their hands, eye movements, or Siri. The device is also rumored to have an outward-facing screen to show the wearer's facial expressions and eye movements, allowing the person opposite to interact with the wearer without feeling like they are talking to a robot.

It will feature a variety of gaming, workout, and meditation apps, and access iOS apps like messaging, FaceTime, and Safari. With FaceTime, the headset will “render the user’s face and body in virtual reality” to create the feeling that the two are in the same room, Bloomberg said.

The decision to introduce the headset at WWDC suggests Apple wants to encourage developers to write apps for the product to make it more appealing to customers, justifying the high price. The company is said to be considering a $3,000 price tag for the device, much higher than rival products and testing the purchasing power of potential customers in a gloomy global economic climate.

Other companies are struggling to find traction. In the years since Apple’s launch, the tech community has shifted away from VR and toward the hot new technology: artificial intelligence. But Apple’s market power could breathe new life into the headset world.

New MacBook

Mixed reality devices may not be the only hardware on display at WWDC 2023. Apple is also planning to launch a new 15-inch MacBook Air, powered by the M2 chip. Previously, if you wanted to buy a large-screen laptop from the “bitten Apple”, users only had one choice: the more expensive MacBook Pro.

New features for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch

WWDC is traditionally a software-focused event, with much of the time spent highlighting changes and upgrades to iOS and iPadOS. Last year, Apple overhauled the lock screen and iMessage, so there won't be much to talk about this year.

While VR may be the focus of the event, Apple will also want to show that it’s keeping pace with Silicon Valley when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI). The company is expected to preview a digital coach service that will motivate people to exercise, improve sleep, and improve eating habits. It’s unclear how the service will work.

Additionally, Apple will be able to demonstrate and expand accessibility tools for iPhone and iPad, including the ability to digitize users' voices after just 15 minutes of training.
