According to Nikkei , Apple has asked its suppliers to prepare components for approximately 88 to 90 million iPhone 16 units. In 2023, Apple ordered around 80 million iPhone 15 units.
Apple is about to release its first iPhone equipped with Apple Intelligence, an artificial intelligence suite. The company will hold an event on September 9th in the US.

Some component manufacturers have even received orders for more than 90 million units, but they say Apple typically places large initial orders and then adjusts them once the product is officially released.
Despite strong orders, Apple is facing numerous challenges from rivals in China, a market that contributed approximately 17% of its total revenue in the first quarter. Huawei's impressive comeback pushed the American giant out of the top 5 best-selling smartphone brands in mainland China in the second quarter.
Overall, Apple's suppliers are being cautious and predict that iPhone shipments will not fluctuate significantly compared to 2023.
Huawei also has its own difficulties. Since May, the Chinese company has continued to face challenges in accessing mobile chips from Qualcomm.
Jeff Pu, director of Haitong Securities, predicts Apple will sell around 88 million iPhones this year but doesn't believe this is the start of a "supercycle."
Apple Intelligence, despite its promise, did not achieve any breakthroughs in 2024. According to experts, 2025 will be more important because the broader AI ecosystem will have matured.
