On May 18, according to information from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , recently, on a number of social networking sites, false information about "fake chicken eggs" (double-yolk eggs) has appeared and spread, causing public confusion and seriously affecting the production and consumption of poultry eggs in the country.
Just a few days after this false information was spread, the price of chicken eggs at farms dropped from 1,500 VND/egg to only 1,200 VND/egg, but they were still difficult to sell, causing many farming households and businesses to fall into a state of loss and risk of bankruptcy.
Faced with this situation, the Vietnam Poultry Association has sent a document to the Ministry of Public Security , the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Science and Technology and many media agencies, requesting them to investigate and strictly handle individuals and organizations that spread false information, causing damage to the livestock industry and disrupting the consumer market.
The association affirms that, to date, there is no domestic or international scientific evidence to show the existence of “fake chicken eggs” with toxins as rumored. In fact, in Vietnam, the authorities have never discovered any fake egg samples circulating on the market.
The Association also requested the press to promptly refute false information and increase propaganda about the nutritional value and safety of poultry eggs, in order to reassure consumers and stabilize production.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Son, Chairman of the Vietnam Poultry Association, currently, there is no scientific evidence in the world that it is possible to produce fake eggs that have the same characteristics as natural chicken eggs.
Mr. Duong Tat Thang, Director of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, said that the department has received the information and is coordinating and directing relevant units to quickly take action to have a plan to support livestock farmers to overcome difficulties.
Mr. Thang affirmed that the information about fake eggs on social networks is just a false rumor that causes panic and seriously affects farmers as well as the consumer market. The act of spreading this rumor must be strictly handled.
