Trash covers kilometers of beach in Lam Dong province. Phan Ri Cua beach in Lam Dong is severely polluted, with the sand covered in garbage and various types of waste.

Observations at the beach area in front of Hai Tan 3 village, Phan Ri Cua commune (Lam Dong province) show that household waste, plastic bags, plastic bottles, damaged fishing nets, and many other types of waste are scattered around, accumulating in large patches.

Many sections of the beach were almost completely full, covered in trash, and emitting an unpleasant odor.

This prolonged situation has resulted in a dilapidated coastal landscape, causing serious aesthetic damage and posing a potential risk to the marine ecosystem.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thu (Song Thanh 1 village, Phan Ri Cua commune) said that the problem of garbage overflowing on the beach has lasted for many years, but so far no agency has taken the initiative to thoroughly address it.

According to Mr. Thu, the reason for the increasingly serious waste problem is the difficulties in waste collection in coastal areas. Garbage trucks cannot reach the area, so people frequently bring their garbage to the beach or dump it directly into the sea, eventually forming pollution "hot spots" stretching for kilometers.

"More and more trash is washing ashore, at times covering the entire beach and emitting a very unpleasant odor. This situation has been going on for many years, but no one has stepped forward to clean it up or resolve the problem," Mr. Thu said.

Not only does the littering of beaches affect the lives of coastal residents, but it also directly threatens local tourism . Ms. Huyen Trang (a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City) said that her family was disgusted by the sight of garbage scattered everywhere.

Speaking to a reporter from Tien Phong newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh, Head of the Economic Department of Phan Ri Cua Commune People's Committee, said that along the Hai Tan 3 village road, the garbage collection unit currently only organizes collection three times a week. Meanwhile, the amount of household waste generated daily by residents is large, leading to a buildup of garbage.

According to Mr. Thanh, due to the inability to collect garbage in time, many households are disposing of waste improperly, even dumping it indiscriminately along roadsides and coastlines, causing pollution and spoiling the aesthetics of the area.

"Currently, the unit has coordinated with the waste collection company to conduct a field survey and identify 'bottleneck' points in order to propose solutions to the People's Committee of the commune to definitively resolve the coastal waste problem before the peak tourist season," Mr. Thanh said.
