From "house number 7 Thien Quang," the Criminal Police force of the Hanoi Public Security Department has built a special brand in the hearts of the people of the capital city.

According to official documents from the Hanoi City Police, upon taking over the capital, the initial criminal investigation force consisted of only 40 officers and soldiers, stationed at 7 Thien Quang Street. They quickly organized the management of the area, combated and suppressed crime, and contributed to maintaining social order and safety.

Having undergone several stages of organizational restructuring, especially after the expansion of the administrative boundaries of the Capital in 2008, the Criminal Police force of Hanoi Public Security has become increasingly mature, meeting the requirements of combating crime in a special urban area with a large population, vibrant socio -economic activities, and many potential complexities.

According to the unit's data, in the approximately 10 years from 2015 to the present, the Criminal Police Department of Hanoi City Police has directly investigated and solved 2,484 criminal cases, arresting 5,023 suspects; dismantled 207 organized crime gangs with 862 members; and apprehended, persuaded to surrender, or removed from the wanted list 1,268.

In addition, the force handled and investigated 8,084 criminal cases, concluding 7,105 cases, achieving a success rate of 87.8%. These figures clearly reflect the high intensity and continuous work of the Criminal Police force in the capital city – where crime is not only increasing in number but also rapidly changing in methods and tactics.

Many exemplary cases have left a deep impression on public opinion. These include the safe rescue of a 5-year-old child kidnapped in Viet Hung ward in 2023; the dismantling of a loan sharking and weapons trafficking gang led by Nguyen Tien Hai, also known as Hai "Le"; and the case involving Pho Duc Nam and Le Khac Ngo, with seized and frozen assets estimated at over 5,200 billion VND.

Practical experience in combating crime shows that today's criminal activity is not limited to traditional forms but also tends to become "anonymous," "technologized," and operates across geographical areas, even internationally. This necessitates that the Criminal Police force continuously improve its professional capabilities, apply science and technology, and proactively prevent crime from early on and from afar, in line with the spirit of building a professional, elite, and modern Hanoi Police force.

Behind the victory lies courage and silent sacrifice.

Speaking to the press, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Viet Quang, Head of the Criminal Police Department of Hanoi City Police, said that criminal investigation requires great caution, dedication, and responsibility; the bigger the case, the more composure and accuracy must be maintained in every decision to ensure the safety of the victim and the effectiveness of the investigation.

Based on the experience of numerous cases, he emphasized the crucial element of prioritizing the safety of citizens. The success of these cases, including the rescue of the kidnapped child, stemmed not only from the ingenuity and decisiveness of the police force, but also from the cautious approach taken to prevent the perpetrators from having the opportunity to endanger the victims.

A retired officer who used to work in the force shared that the most valuable thing for a criminal investigator is not just solving cases, but maintaining the trust of the people. Every time they go to the field, every time they are there promptly when the people need them, it is a way to build the image of a police officer who is close to the people and serves the people.

In reality, behind every victory are silent sacrifices. Some officers and soldiers were injured while on duty, some suffered lifelong injuries, and some even bravely sacrificed their lives for the peace of the people. These losses are emphasized in the unit's documents as an inseparable part of the tradition of the Criminal Police force.

The title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces for the third time is a source of pride and a great responsibility for the Criminal Police Department of the Hanoi City Police. In the context of continuously evolving and complex crime, and the increasing demands for maintaining security and order, this force will continue to uphold its traditions, enhance its capabilities, apply science and technology, and maintain close ties with the people, proving itself worthy as a "sharp sword" protecting the peace of the capital city.

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Criminal Police Force, the Criminal Police Department of the Hanoi City Police was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the State.

This is the third time the unit has received this prestigious title, following previous awards in 1995 and 2013.
