The 2023 Asian Cup will take place from January 12, 2024. The Vietnamese national team is in Group D along with Japan, Iraq, and Indonesia.
According to the tournament format, 24 teams are divided into 6 groups. The top two teams in each group automatically qualify for the knockout round. The remaining spots are reserved for the four best third-placed teams.
At the 2019 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese national team, under the guidance of coach Park Hang Seo, advanced from the group stage as the last team to finish third. This year, in a group with Japan and Iraq – two of Asia's top teams – the Vietnamese team will find it difficult to compete for the top two spots.
