Currently, some provinces and cities have announced the subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam or have a clear stance on the choice of a third exam subject.

Speaking to a reporter from Dan Viet newspaper, a representative from the Vinh Phuc Department of Education and Training stated: "Currently, the Department has published sample exam questions for the 10th grade entrance exam in various subjects for students to refer to. Early next week, the Department will hold a meeting to discuss the 10th grade entrance exam plan and plans to announce it as soon as possible. The Department's view is to announce the plan in a way that avoids anxiety for students and allows them sufficient time to prepare, while also preventing them from focusing on only certain subjects."

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training officially announced the subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, students in Ho Chi Minh City will take exams in three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and English.

According to Mr. Ho Tan Minh, Chief of the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, this exam is in line with the wishes and aspirations of the Department's leadership as well as the majority of parents and students in the city. Specifically, Literature and Mathematics will have a time limit of 120 minutes each; English will have a time limit of 90 minutes. The exam is tentatively scheduled for early June 2025.

The Quang Nam Department of Education and Training also announced that the third subject is expected to be English. According to a representative of the Department, English is a suitable choice, helping to motivate and encourage students to enhance their learning of this subject in the context of international integration and to make English the second language in schools.

The provinces of Tien Giang and Khanh Hoa also have similar plans. According to the leaders of the Khanh Hoa Department of Education and Training, Khanh Hoa's long-standing stance has always been to conduct the exam in English.

In Tien Giang province, the Department of Education and Training believes that students need to be proficient in English to access materials and information during their studies. When entering the labor market, they will need to use this language for work and communication. Therefore, for many years, Tien Giang has maintained three subjects for the 10th grade entrance exam: Mathematics, Literature, and English. It is expected that the third subject for the upcoming 10th grade entrance exam will be English.

When will the Hanoi 10th grade entrance exam plan be announced?

For students in Hanoi, the current situation is one of anticipation for the Department of Education and Training to finalize the exam plan. According to the plan, the Departments of Education and Training will use the regulations on secondary and high school admissions issued by the Ministry of Education and Training as a basis to develop admission plans, submit them to the People's Committees of provinces and cities for approval, and only then can they be widely announced. Therefore, at the earliest, it will be at the beginning of the second semester, i.e., the end of January or the beginning of February 2025, before 9th-grade students can know the admission plan for 10th grade in the 2025-2026 school year.

In the meantime, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has requested schools to seriously implement the school year's curriculum, teaching all subjects and educational activities fully, absolutely avoiding complacency and biased teaching. During teaching and review sessions, schools need to closely follow the requirements of the new curriculum and the sample exam questions for the 10th grade entrance exam previously published by the Department to be ready for the exam.

Recently, the Ministry of Education and Training sent a document to the Departments of Education and Training regarding the selection and announcement of the third exam subject and guidance on admission criteria for junior and senior high school entrance exams.

Accordingly, the Ministry requests that the Departments of Education and Training promptly select and announce the third subject or test for the 10th grade entrance exam as prescribed. This aims to facilitate students' learning, completion of the curriculum, and revision, ensuring they are well-prepared and mentally ready to achieve good results in the exam.

Regarding secondary school admissions, the Ministry requests that the Department of Education and Training urgently develop and publish principles and criteria for admission to grade 6 that are appropriate to the actual conditions of the locality, so that students, parents, teachers, and schools understand them clearly and can proactively participate in the admissions process.

For schools where the number of registered students exceeds the allocated quota, the Department of Education will guide schools to assess students' abilities through various methods such as question-and-answer sessions, written assignments, presentations, practical exercises, and experiments. This ensures that the admissions process is fair, open, transparent, and appropriate to the practical conditions.

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Circular No. 30 on the regulations for admission to junior and senior high schools, which included many new points such as the requirement for junior high schools to select students for grade 6.

For the 10th grade entrance exam, the test will include three subjects: Mathematics, Literature, and a third subject/test chosen by the Department of Education and Training.

The third subject for the exam is selected from among the graded subjects in the lower secondary education curriculum, ensuring that the same subject is not chosen for more than three consecutive years. The Departments of Education and Training will announce the third subject after the end of the first semester, but no later than March 31st of each year.
