In the quarterfinals of the Asian U23 tournament last night, U23 Vietnam lost 0-1 to U23 Iraq. The only goal in this match was scored by Ali Jasim from the penalty spot.

With this defeat, U23 Vietnam stopped competing in the U23 Asian Championship. Meanwhile, Iraq U23 will face Japan U23 in the semi-finals. They are aiming for a ticket to the 2024 Olympics as well as the U23 Asian Championship.
Commenting on the recent match, the Iraqi press was satisfied with the home team's performance in the match against U23 Vietnam. Win Win newspaper commented: "Iraq U23 won a ticket to the quarterfinals of the Asian U23 tournament after winning 1-0 against U23 Vietnam.
Notably, Iraq U23 became the only Arab team to reach the semi-finals of the Asian U23 tournament after Jordan, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia all stopped.
The biggest turning point in the match between U23 Iraq and U23 Vietnam came from the penalty kick. The referee took a lot of time to check. In the end, Ali Jasim succeeded to score the only goal for Iraq U23.

Commenting on the match, Extrakora newspaper also said that U23 Vietnam played well in the first half. However, in the second half, when Iraq U1 stepped up their attack firepower, U2 Vietnam's defense showed an error.
