Barca refutes the book about Lewandowski.

The latest official biography of Robert Lewandowski reveals a shocking story involving the Polish striker during the 2022/23 season.

Lewandowski is causing controversy again.

The book, titled "Lewandowski - The Real Man," written by Polish journalist Sebastian Staszewski, reveals that with only two rounds remaining in La Liga 2022/23, Barcelona under Xavi had already won the title. At that time, Lewandowski led the league's top scorer list with 23 goals.

In a private meeting with the club's leadership, including President Joan Laporta, a member of the Barca board of directors frankly told Lewandowski: "Robert, we need you to stop scoring in the last two games."

Lewandowski, as described in the book, was completely stunned because no club in his career had ever asked him for anything like that. The reason for this unbelievable offer? Money.

According to the transfer agreement from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, Barcelona had to pay an additional €2.5 million if Lewandowski reached 25 goals in his first season. Since the La Liga title was already secured, Barca decided to opt for a more economical solution by suggesting their star striker should not score.

As a result, Lewandowski played the full 90 minutes in the final two matches but didn't score any more goals. He still won the Pichichi award with 23 goals, two more than Karim Benzema, and Barcelona didn't have to pay Bayern an additional €2.5 million.

Lewandowski's contract with Barca is about to expire.

However, journalist David Bernabeu Reverter was skeptical of this information: "I find it hard to believe that someone from Barca would ask Lewandowski not to score. I don't believe that."

Mundo Deportivo later quoted a source from the Barca leadership, stating that the Lewy transfer agreement included a €1.25 million bonus for Bayern if Lewandowski scored 25 goals in all competitions in a season, not just in La Liga as the book mentioned.

This clause lasts for four seasons, and the Polish striker scored a total of 33 goals in all competitions during the 2022/23 season. Therefore, the information above is inaccurate.

Also in the book, Staszewski recounts another detail that clearly reflects Barcelona's tight financial situation at the time. During a team trip, Lewandowski noticed that the meal menu had very few meat and fish options. He asked the chef about it and received the brief reply: "We have to save money."

This story, although it happened more than two years ago, is still causing a great deal of controversy as it was revealed in a biography about Lewandowski. This is because it requires the player's permission before being published to the public.
