In recent years, actress Dieu Nhi has been making waves in the Vietnamese entertainment industry with a packed schedule of activities. Having just caused a sensation on the show "Beautiful Sisters Riding the Waves," Dieu Nhi is now preparing to conquer the box office with her leading role in the Lunar New Year film "Meeting the Pregnant Sister Again."
In a conversation with VTC News at the beginning of the new year, Dieu Nhi said that after many years of hard work in the arts, she and her time have finally met.
Actress Dieu Nhi stated that she doesn't "choose her friends wisely" in the drama "Beautiful Sister Riding the Waves."
"Time and I have met."
- After many years in the entertainment industry, the name Dieu Nhi has become a distinct "brand" in Vietnamese showbiz, gaining more and more recognition from the audience. Is it accurate to say that Dieu Nhi is currently experiencing a period of success?
It's true to say that Dieu Nhi is having her moment in the spotlight. However, Dieu Nhi isn't just sitting around waiting for her time to come. Throughout her more than ten years in the arts, struggling to perform since she was 18, she's worked incredibly hard. Now, Dieu Nhi and her time have finally met, whereas before, they never did.
- Although they've been married for a long time, whenever they appear in front of the media, Dieu Nhi and Anh Tu rarely talk about each other. They're not like other couples in showbiz who are always happy to talk a lot about each other. Why is that?
The controversies surrounding me are something I have no control over. Sometimes, even when I don't choose them, the controversies still come to me. The reason both Dieu Nhi and Anh Tu rarely discuss their private lives with the media is because that's just our personality. In our work, we prioritize being extroverted, but when it comes to private matters, we're both very introverted. I don't use my private life for PR.
Because we work a lot and interact with many people, we have to maintain a cheerful and optimistic attitude, but inherently, both of us are very shy, even a little embarrassed, when sharing personal matters.
It's not just about Anh Tú; I rarely talk about anything related to my family. Sometimes, disagreements between siblings, relatives, and extended family are unavoidable, but I'm very reluctant to discuss them. I rarely go out to eat or chat with relatives except on very special occasions.
After more than 10 years in the entertainment industry, Dieu Nhi says that she and her time have finally met again.
- Up to this point, is Dieu Nhi still upset by the negative comments about her?
It's just a little bit sad. Back when I was younger and not yet well-known, every time someone said negative things about me, I would feel sad and depressed. I wondered why that was the case. For a long time, I was bothered by this.
However, after experiencing many setbacks, I gradually changed my mind. I wondered why I kept reading negative and abusive comments. Why not choose to read something more cheerful and positive?
I need to think rationally about the issue. Audience comments are one thing, but how I feel and whether I need to change is another. I can seek advice from family and friends; I can't just focus on reading comments and get upset.
I always seriously examine myself, looking for my strengths and weaknesses. If changes are needed, I'm ready to do them immediately; artists, no matter how strong their egos, still need to listen to their audience.
- In "Beautiful Woman Riding the Waves," audiences were familiar with Dieu Nhi's humorous and cheerful image, but in "Meeting the Pregnant Woman Again," Dieu Nhi surprised everyone with her calm and gentle demeanor. Would it be accurate to call this a transformation?
If you see me transform in my acting, honestly, I'm very happy. I see it as encouragement for my entire career. To get to where I am today, I've learned and observed a lot from those who came before me.
Inside every woman are many different emotions. When placed in different times and circumstances, a woman will express the appropriate emotions. Sometimes the audience sees Dieu Nhi smiling and laughing, other times they see her being quiet and reserved. It's simply a matter of knowing the context and expressing different emotional states accordingly.
Ten years ago, if you had met me, you certainly wouldn't have seen Dieu Nhi as calm as she is now. After 10 years in the profession, with all the ups and downs, failures, and contributions from everyone, I've become the Dieu Nhi I am today. Compared to before, I'm calmer, gentler, more graceful, and more feminine.
I like both cheerfulness and calmness. With each stage of my life, I've grown more mature. I like who I am now; my depth as a person hasn't changed, but I've learned to moderate my emotions to suit the environment and circumstances.
Diệu Nhi admitted that she is a demanding and meticulous person at work.
- I've read comments on social media where viewers said that Dieu Nhi is trying to be funny to liven up the atmosphere among the other beautiful women. Is this true?
Why bother pretending to be cheerful and funny? (Laughs). There must be some misunderstanding. The "Beautiful Sisters Riding the Waves" show must have seen something outstanding about Dieu Nhi to invite me to participate.
Actually, I receive many invitations to participate in various programs, but I'm selective. I only participate in programs that are suitable for me, because when I laugh, I just laugh out loud, which doesn't look very polite. Furthermore, I have to choose programs where I feel most comfortable appearing; I'm afraid I wouldn't be suitable for programs that require seriousness.
I understand that joking around is unacceptable at work. At the same time, I require my colleagues to be serious as well.
- I've noticed that Dieu Nhi is close to many women in showbiz, and those who hang out with her are all famous and have a certain influence. I said you're "like a magnet" in showbiz; is that true?
In the show "Beautiful Women Riding the Waves," I made friends with many women. I found everyone there lovely, and they supported each other wholeheartedly; there were no major problems. You have to be a certain kind of person to be loved by others, not to be selective about who you hang out with or only associate with celebrities to bask in their glory. That certainly doesn't exist.
I'm happy that my friend is loved by the audience, and that I myself am also loved by the audience. So when we perform together, we'll be even more loved. That's just my personality; I don't intentionally choose to perform with people who are already popular. That doesn't mean anything to me.
The career that Dieu Nhi has today is the result of a very long journey, with much effort and hard work. It's not about associating with famous people to achieve this or that. Friendships need to be genuine to last long. You have to be genuine for the other girls to love you; they're all grown up now, not children, and they know what you're really like.
In the latter half of 2023, Dieu Nhi stirred up the Vietnamese entertainment industry with a packed schedule of activities.
No need to worry about "clashing" with Tran Thanh's film Mai.

- Is "Meeting My Pregnant Sister Again" the film where Dieu Nhi cried the most to date?
That's right. This is the most emotionally intense and tear-jerking film my mother has ever acted in. However, the emotions in the film felt very real; during the performance, the tears flowed naturally with the emotional intensity, not from forced crying or feigning pain.
When I started playing Ngoc Huyen, I was already moved from the moment I read the script. When I got to the set, just looking into Le Giang's eyes or hearing her speak made me want to cry. I didn't even dare look at her. There was a scene near the end of the film where I was lying on a stretcher being carried around, and even though I didn't say a word, tears still streamed down my face. I feel very lucky to have played a role I loved and to work with talented actors like Le Giang and Anh Tu. They helped to enhance the emotions and allowed me to embody the character better.
Diệu Nhi felt pressured by her role in the film "Meeting the Pregnant Sister Again".
- After rewatching those tearful scenes of herself playing a pregnant mother doing everything to protect her child, does Dieu Nhi feel more love for her family and loved ones?
Actually, it wasn't just while filming this movie that I felt so much love for my parents. I went through a rebellious and impulsive youth, with disagreements with my family, and later I realized that what I did was wrong. Because I experienced that impulsiveness early on, I realized the value of family.
From my time studying at the School of Theater and Film to my working life up to the present, I feel I've matured a lot. Because I started working and earning money early, I understand how hard my parents worked to support me. It's not just when I act in films about family or the sacrifices of parents that I start caring about my loved ones. This care and love comes from within me; when I want to love, I will love. Besides, for Dieu Nhi, family comes first.
- What kind of pressure did Dieu Nhi face in the Lunar New Year film "Meeting the Pregnant Sister Again"? Also releasing at the same time is the film "Mai," directed by Tran Thanh. Was Dieu Nhi apprehensive about Tran Thanh, considering that his previous films have grossed hundreds of billions of VND?
There's pressure! I'm putting pressure on myself because this is a role I've been waiting for for a long time. I don't know if the audience will feel the same way about Dieu Nhi's previous roles when they see her in theaters. I don't want to repeat myself.
As for Tran Thanh, it's clear to everyone that he's very talented. When I met him, I said, "Keep up the good work, brother! Let's both try our best so that the audience can have a great film."
Tran Thanh's film "Mai" is excellent. After watching the first screenings, everyone commented that it's a great film with depth of content. I personally enjoyed "Mai" after watching it because it's so good. "Meeting the Pregnant Woman Again" was good, and "Mai" is also good, meaning audiences have more choices. Being able to watch a good film this Tet holiday makes me happy, not worried.
According to Dieu Nhi, the movie "Meeting the Pregnant Sister Again" is good, and the movie "Mai" is also good.
- When two films are released at the same time, one will naturally receive more screening slots from theaters, while the other will naturally lose its advantage due to fewer screenings. If "Meeting the Pregnant Woman Again" is overshadowed by "Mai" in terms of screening slots, what will Dieu Nhi do?
I think it's fine. The audience decides the screenings, and if "Meeting the Pregnant Woman Again" is popular with the audience, the theaters will increase the number of screenings. Regarding the screening schedule, I find it normal, as long as the film doesn't lose money.
I always hope that when I make a film, the filmmakers will quickly recoup their investment so they have the motivation to make the next one. That's all an actor like me can think about. As for whether the audience will love, support, and go to the cinema to see my film, that's very difficult to predict.
