Girl seriously bitten by dog

Ha Giang A 5-year-old girl in Viet Quang town, Bac Quang district, was seriously injured by a dog while walking on the sidewalk.

At around 8:50 p.m. on March 27, a little girl was walking alone on the sidewalk when suddenly a dog weighing about 15 kg jumped on her, biting her repeatedly on the face and legs. Nearly a minute later, when people around discovered the incident and chased it away, the dog let go of the girl and ran away.

Ms. Trinh Quynh Dung, the girl's mother, said that the girl was bitten while on her way to a friend's house about 50 meters away. "I was at home when I received the news that my daughter was bitten by a dog. Her face, arms, shoulders, and part of her lips were torn, and there were many scratches all over her body," Ms. Dung said.

After first aid at the district hospital, the girl was taken to the National Children's Hospital for treatment. She has now been vaccinated against rabies by doctors, is conscious, and continues to be monitored by medical staff.

The leader of the People's Committee of Viet Quang town said on the afternoon of March 28 that in addition to the child above, the dog also attacked three other people, including two children and one adult.

The dog was then captured and destroyed by local residents. The People's Committee of Viet Quang town issued a document requesting residents not to release their dogs in public places.

This is not the first time a dog has attacked people. In early March in Quang Ninh , an unmuzzled dog entered a school at noon and attacked 14 students and teachers at Duc Yen Primary and Secondary School in Duc Yen Commune, Dam Ha District. All the victims were later required to receive rabies vaccinations.
