Scoring a goal and then receiving a red card.
In the 2-0 victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 16, US striker Balogun scored the opening goal in the 45th minute, but was then sent off in the 62nd minute. According to Opta, Balogun equaled Zidane's unfortunate record, becoming the player to both score a goal and receive a red card in a World Cup knockout match.
An unbelievable reversal of fortune.
Trailing Senegal 0-2 until the 85th minute, Belgium needed only three minutes to equalize 2-2, before scoring the winning goal in the 120+5th minute to secure a 3-2 victory. According to Opta, Belgium became the first team in World Cup history to be 2-0 down until the 85th minute without losing.
Despite setting a record, they were still eliminated.
Goals from Habib Diarra (25th minute) and Ismaila Sarr (52nd minute) against Belgium in the Round of 16 helped Senegal become the first African team to score 10 goals in a World Cup. However, complacency in the final minutes of the match caused Senegal to miss out on a place in the Round of 8, a truly heartbreaking outcome.
