Together in difficult times

Many people share that in life they have faced difficulties and setbacks many times, but as long as they don't give up and remain determined, they can overcome any obstacle. It's even more precious when, during periods of disappointment and hardship, they have the support and companionship of their family, which gives them the motivation to overcome challenges and achieve success.

A few years ago, Kim Chi's family in Hung Phu ward was thrown into turmoil when Thanh, the eldest son of Kim Chi's older brother and a university student, reported that he had pawned his motorbike and used the tuition money his family sent him to satisfy his gambling addiction. Because of this, Thanh was too ashamed to return home and contemplated suicide.

Upon hearing the bad news, Thanh's father wanted to withdraw from school and disown him. Kim Chi recounted, "My sister-in-law and I advised my brother to calm down and give Thanh a chance to correct his mistakes." With the encouragement and support of her family, Kim Chi's niece gradually changed, abandoned her bad habits, improved in her studies, and has now completed her university program and found a stable job.

Ms. Tuyet Quan's family in Hung Phu ward also experienced a period of "downturn" when her eldest son, who was an excellent student, failed the medical school entrance exam. Ms. Quan knew her son always longed to work in the medical field, so she was very understanding. She was close to him, encouraged him, and offered guidance to help him regain his confidence. Ms. Quan recounted: "My son is calm, meticulous, and hardworking, well-suited to nursing. Studying this field would still allow him to achieve his goal of working in the medical field, but the scores wouldn't be too competitive." Hearing this reasonable explanation, her son seemed to see a bright future ahead. After studying, Hoang An, Ms. Tuyet Quan's son, passed the nursing entrance exam at a college. Thanks to the accurate assessment of his abilities and the support of his family, Hoang An completed his studies and is now working as a nurse at a hospital, fulfilling his aspirations and aptitude.

Ms. Thuy Dung, from Phu Loc commune, graduated from a vocational school in pharmacy, and her husband is an engineer. After getting married, the couple decided to start a career in Can Tho, even though it meant working in fields unrelated to their studies. Ms. Dung even accepted overtime and extra shifts, sometimes requiring hospitalization due to health issues. Financial difficulties led Ms. Dung to postpone having their first child, causing frequent conflicts and disagreements in their marriage.

Recognizing the potential for business development in her hometown, Ms. Dung discussed with her husband the idea of returning to their village to start a business, developing livestock farming following her husband's family tradition and also engaging in the rice and animal feed trade. In the early years of their venture, the young couple faced numerous difficulties. They persevered, learning from experience step by step. Most importantly, they received unwavering support from both their families, who provided capital and helped care for their young child. Today, they have built a comfortable home and earn hundreds of millions of dong annually.

About 10 years ago, Ms. Ho Ngoc Thuy, who lived and ran a business in Ninh Kieu ward, also faced many difficulties when starting her business. Ms. Thuy recounted: “My hometown is in Ca Mau . After getting married, my husband and I settled in Can Tho. Although our jobs were quite stable, we decided to change direction and switch to buying and selling Ca Mau crabs. Because since childhood, I have been passionate about business and longed to develop the products of my hometown.”

Initially, lacking both capital and experience, Thuy and her husband faced setbacks. However, with family support, from capital to connections to stable and competitively priced suppliers, they overcame the difficult period. Thuy shared: “My father took me to meet each fish farm owner, connecting us so that the households would agree to deferred payment options. My husband and I also independently learned more about business and communication skills, gradually progressing.”

Ms. Ngoc Thuy recounted that her parents not only provided capital, encouragement, and guidance on business experience, but also supported her and her husband when their young children were sick, allowing them to focus on their business. “When talking about our success today, we cannot fail to mention the dedicated support of our family. I feel happy and proud that my relatives always love, protect, and are a pillar of support during times of difficulty and failure. To date, in addition to our main product, Ca Mau crab, I have expanded production to include more than 30 products of dried shrimp and fish, three of which have received OCOP certification…” – Ms. Ngoc Thuy confided.
