Every day, Quang Ngai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital receives 700-800 patients for examination and treatment. The large number of patients puts a heavy burden on medical staff in assisting and receiving them. Therefore, this medical facility has introduced artificial intelligence (AI) robots to assist patients.
"Take me to the hospital pharmacy," said Ms. Pham Thi Lap (Nghia Lo ward, Quang Ngai province) to the robot at the Quang Ngai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.

Immediately, the robot received the command and guided Ms. Lap to the correct location of the pharmacy. Upon completing its task, the robot automatically returned to its patient reception area.
"I was quite surprised to be guided by the robot. Not only that, I was also able to find a lot of information about doctors, appointment schedules, and clinic locations. Using the robot is very simple, convenient, and enjoyable for patients," Ms. Lap shared.
Quang Ngai Provincial Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital is using two types of robots to assist patients and reduce the workload for medical staff. One type of robot is responsible for receiving patients.
This type of robot can help patients look up relevant information about the location of hospital departments and wards, health insurance information, doctor's appointment schedules, and perform navigation tasks.

The second type of robot assists healthcare workers in transporting medications and food to individual departments and wards for doctors or patients. The robot can use elevators to travel to all floors of the hospital for delivery.
Each tray containing food and medicine for the robot is equipped with sensors. The robot will alert and remind patients or staff to take the correct food or medicine from each tray.
According to Dr. Nguyen Dinh Tuyen, Director of the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital of Quang Ngai province, the initial use of AI robots to serve patients has yielded positive results.
Robots are capable of friendly communication and providing accurate information. This helps reduce patient waiting times and lessen the workload for healthcare staff.

The hospital is planning to integrate online consultation and telemedicine applications into its AI robots. This will help the robots become assistants to the medical team, making patient care faster and more efficient.
"In the long term, we will integrate more information into the robot, including the most advanced diagnostic and treatment methods. From there, doctors can communicate with the robot to search for useful information to support their professional work," Dr. Tuyen added.
