Ms. Courtney Blake (27 years old) is a graphic designer in Leeds (UK). When her health was unstable, she went to the doctor to check and found out that she had a rare tumor, according to the newspaper Daily Express (Older brother).
The type of tumor she had was an angiomyxoma, a rare endocrine tumor located in the pelvis. This tumor is slow growing so it is benign and not cancerous. The majority of patients with angiomyxoma are women of reproductive age.
In most cases, the tumor develops in the pelvic area or perineum, only in a few cases outside the pelvis. The world medical literature began to record this disease in 1983 and so far only about 150 cases have been detected.
In Blake's case, the tumor has been growing silently in the body for a long time. By the time it was discovered, the tumor had grown to be the size of a cantaloupe, the longest part measuring between 10 and 12 centimeters.
In November 11.2022, doctors performed a 16-hour surgery to remove the tumor. Because the tumor invaded most of the pelvis, to remove the tumor, doctors also had to remove Blake's colon, rectum, bladder, uterus and entire vagina.
After the surgery, she spent a week in the intensive care unit. In the months that followed, she received rehabilitation care, using a catheter, colostomy, and other medical procedures.
After recovering, Ms. Blake worked out to improve her health. She is planning to participate in the Great North Run half-marathon in the city of Newcastle (UK) next September. To complete the 9km run, she is working hard to improve her fitness.
The companion to participate in that running race with her was her fiance – Mr. Mac (26 years old). Ms Blake plans to join her race to raise money for Cancer Research UK. Daily Express.
