According to the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, at 1 PM today (September 5th), the center of the low-pressure area was located at approximately 16.0 – 17.0° North latitude; 117.8 – 118.8° East longitude, over the northern part of the South China Sea.
This low-pressure area is forecast to move in a west-northwest direction, traveling at approximately 10 km per hour, and has the potential to strengthen into a tropical depression.
Due to the influence of a low-pressure system (which may later strengthen into a tropical depression), from September 6th, the eastern part of the North East Sea will experience heavy rain and thunderstorms. Winds will gradually strengthen to level 6, gusting to level 8, with waves 2-4 meters high and rough seas.

According to forecasts, the tropical depression is unlikely to make landfall in Vietnam but will instead move towards Hong Kong (China). The remnants of the tropical depression may then cause scattered showers and thunderstorms in the northern region, with some areas experiencing heavy rain.
However, the development of the tropical depression remains unpredictable. Forecast information regarding the development of the low-pressure area (which may later strengthen into a tropical depression) is regularly updated on the National Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting's electronic portal.
The activity of the low-pressure system also intensifies the southwest monsoon, bringing rain to the Southern and Central Highlands regions.
The forecast for the evening and night of September 5th indicates scattered showers and thunderstorms in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam, with localized heavy rainfall of 10-30mm, and in some places over 70mm. There is a warning of heavy rainfall exceeding 70mm in 3 hours. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
Over the next 2-3 days, this area will continue to experience scattered showers and thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening, with localized moderate to heavy rainfall.
Additionally, in the coming days, scattered showers are expected in the late afternoon and evening in the area from Quang Tri to Hue and the South Central coastal region. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
The South China Sea is experiencing a stormy year. In August, two typhoons and two tropical depressions appeared in the South China Sea, with two typhoons and one tropical depression directly affecting the mainland of Vietnam.
Forecasts indicate that in September, approximately 2-3 typhoons/tropical depressions will be active in the South China Sea, with 1-2 of them potentially affecting the Vietnamese mainland.
