'Mansion' on the white sand

QTO - Over the past 10 years, thanks to remittances from overseas workers, many coastal villages in Cua Viet commune have donned a "new look" with numerous spacious houses built, worth billions of dong. For the people of this coastal area, these houses are "mansions" built with the sweat of months of hard work and struggle to make a living abroad.

Visiting the coastal villages of Cua Viet commune, one cannot help but be amazed by the numerous "mansions" springing up one after another. Mr. Le Quang Trung from Hamlet 6, Cua Viet commune, excitedly shared that more than 15 years ago, his family was always in a state of poverty. Not only Mr. Trung's family, but most people in the coastal areas faced hardship due to their dependence on near-shore fishing, resulting in unstable income.

With no other options, in recent years, many families have chosen to "go abroad" to make a living. Dozens of young laborers who used to work in the fishing industry have now chosen to work overseas or study in South Korea, Japan, Germany, Canada, and other countries.

Mr. Le Quang Trung's family has four children, including his son Le Quang Hiep (40 years old), who has been working abroad in South Korea for five years. He has saved up money and sent it back to his parents to build a house worth 2.8 billion VND. Mr. Le Quang Trung still feels like it's a dream, because he never thought he could one day build such a spacious and beautiful house.

Meanwhile, Mr. Tran Quoc Toan from Tan Hai village, Cua Viet commune, excitedly shared that his son, Tran Van Man (34 years old), who went to work in South Korea, recently sent money back to build a house worth about 3 billion VND. His son has been working in South Korea for over 7 years now; although it's hard work, the income is many times higher than what he would earn fishing near the shore if he stayed home.

Mr. Bui Xuan Ngu from Tan Hai village, Cua Viet commune, shared that in Tan Hai village alone, there are nearly 100 workers currently employed in South Korea. It can be said that Tan Hai is one of the villages with the largest workforce in South Korea in the former Gio Hai commune.

Currently, the average salary in South Korea is between 45-55 million VND/month/worker; some skilled workers can earn up to 80-90 million VND/month/worker. Vietnamese workers in South Korea mainly work in key sectors such as agriculture , industry, fisheries, and construction.

Most families in Tan Hai village who are currently building large, beautiful, and spacious houses have relatives who went to work in South Korea about 5-7 years ago. In just the past year, dozens of large, beautiful houses have been completed or are under construction in Tan Hai village.

According to Le Anh Hung, Head of the Culture and Social Affairs Department of Cua Viet commune, sending people abroad for work is the right direction, not only helping to solve unemployment but also increasing income, reducing poverty, and promoting socio -economic development of the locality. Currently, nearly 2,500 workers from Cua Viet commune are working in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan (China), Russia, Germany, Canada, and other countries.

Many workers, after completing their fixed-term contracts abroad, have either returned to work or come back to their home country to start businesses by establishing production facilities, trading companies, etc., to develop their family's economy. Participating in overseas labor has brought about significant changes in the lives of the people here. Thanks to a stable income, many families have escaped poverty and become relatively well-off.

Cua Viet commune also regularly coordinates with relevant units to promote propaganda and counseling, while creating conditions for workers to access preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank. At the same time, it requires people to go abroad for work through official channels, avoiding unauthorized departures which lead to risks. The goal is to help people find employment, have a stable income, accumulate experience, and have the conditions to continue developing the economy upon returning to their hometown.
