Stabilization in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year)

Rice prices in the Mekong Delta region today, January 27, 2025, remained largely unchanged. Prices for all types of rice and paddy remained stable compared to the end of last week.

Specifically, regarding rice, according to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the current prices are as follows: IR 50404 rice (fresh) ranges from 5,500 - 5,700 VND/kg; OM 5451 rice ranges from 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg; OM 380 rice is at 6,600 - 6,700 VND/kg; OM 18 rice (fresh) ranges from 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg; Dai Thom 8 rice (fresh) ranges from 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg; Nhat rice is at 7,800 - 8,000 VND/kg; and Nang Hoa 9 rice is at 9,200 VND/kg.

Observations in many localities today indicate that rice trading has come to a halt due to the Tet holiday. In Kien Giang, the supply of rice for sale after Tet is scarce, as traders are on holiday and have stopped buying. In Soc Trang , farmers with early winter-spring rice are offering few for sale, and many traders are on holiday and have stopped buying.

In Can Tho, farmers are offering their winter-spring rice crop for sale, but there are few buyers, as most are on Tet holiday. In Hau Giang , the supply of rice for harvest after Tet is limited, rice prices remain stable, and traders are on Tet holiday.

Similarly, regarding rice, according to updates from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of An Giang province, the current price of IR 504 raw rice ranges from 7,500-7,700 VND/kg; finished IR 504 rice ranges from 9,500-9,700 VND/kg; OM 380 raw rice ranges from 7,300-7,500 VND/kg; and finished OM 380 rice ranges from 8,800-9,000 VND/kg.

Regarding by-products, the prices of these items range from approximately 5,600 to 7,300 VND/kg. Currently, the price of broken rice is between 7,100 and 7,300 VND/kg; the price of dry rice bran is between 5,600 and 5,700 VND/kg.

Observations in various localities today indicate that incoming supplies continue to decrease, and buying and selling transactions remain slow. In Lap Vo - Vam Cong (Dong Thap), incoming supplies are low, and warehouses are closed for Tet (Lunar New Year) and have stopped purchasing. In Sa Dec (Dong Thap), all types of rice are priced the same, and export warehouses are closed for Tet and have stopped buying.

At Sa Dec market (Dong Thap province), the supply is low, rice transactions near Tet remain slow, and rice prices are stable. At An Cu (Cai Be district, Tien Giang province), the supply is low, prices are relatively stable, and traders are on Tet holiday and have stopped buying and selling.

At retail markets, rice prices remain stable compared to yesterday. Currently, regular rice ranges from 16,000 to 17,000 VND/kg; Nang Nhen rice has the highest listed price at 28,000 VND/kg; long-grain fragrant rice is 20,000 - 22,000 VND/kg; Huong Lai rice is 22,000 VND/kg; Jasmine fragrant rice ranges from 18,000 to 20,000 VND/kg; common white rice is at 17,000 VND/kg; Nang Hoa rice is at 22,000 VND/kg; Taiwanese fragrant rice is 21,000 VND/kg; regular Soc rice ranges from 18,000 VND/kg; Soc Thai rice is 21,000 VND/kg; and Japanese rice is 22,000 VND/kg.

On the export market, Vietnam's rice export prices remained unchanged today compared to the end of last week. According to the Vietnam Food Association (VFA), the current price for 5% broken rice is $413/ton; 25% broken rice is $387/ton; and 100% broken rice is $330/ton.
