At the end of November, when late floods were still spreading across the border fields, officers and soldiers of the Tinh Bien International Border Gate Border Guard Station regularly crossed the fields to patrol and maintain the border lines and landmarks.

Amidst the dry wind blowing through the fields, the border guards walked steadily on patrol. In the distance were mountain ranges and rows of palm trees stretching out in the sunlight. All created a peaceful yet resilient picture at the border of the Fatherland. While walking, Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Hoang Phong - Head of the Anti-Drug Team introduced the area of the station in Tinh Bien ward, opposite is Phnum Den commune, Kirivong district, Takeo province (Kingdom of Cambodia). From here to the neighboring country is only a few dozen steps.

In the fields, Cambodian people are leisurely fishing with nets, many of them are waving to the Vietnamese patrol force. A beautiful image of solidarity and attachment between the people on both sides of the border. We stopped at checkpoint 21, where soldier Nguyen Van Linh is on guard duty. The scene is simple with a small, simple checkpoint, the red flag with a yellow star fluttering brightly, opposite is milestone 276. Soldier Linh said that every day he and his teammates patrol and control the border to prevent illegal entry and exit, smuggling and all kinds of criminals taking advantage of the terrain to operate. "Although the material conditions at the checkpoint are poor, we always share the joys and sorrows, so we can overcome all hardships," said Linh.

Tinh Bien International Border Guard Station is in charge of a 9.94km long border section, with 4 main markers (274, 275, 276, 277), 8 sub-markers and 5 markers. This is a key area, Tinh Bien International Border Gate is the gateway for trade between the Mekong Delta with Cambodia and other Southeast Asian countries. In the area, the situation of smuggling and transporting prohibited goods is always potentially complicated. Subjects hide gold and foreign currency in their bodies or in the empty compartments of their vehicles; hide drugs in agricultural products and electronic components; take advantage of the dark night, rain and floods to smuggle goods across the border; and make false declarations to deceive the authorities. Each trick requires officers and soldiers to always be vigilant, have a firm grasp of their profession and resolutely fight.

Major Bui Van Liet - Deputy Head of the Tinh Bien International Border Guard Station said: "The unit proactively and synchronously deploys professional measures, enhances the application of modern technical means in border control and area management, and strictly handles all violations. Education and training for officers and soldiers are carried out regularly to ensure that everyone is steadfast in all situations."

The border guards have stepped up propaganda to the people on border regulations, import-export and immigration procedures; guided people on how to exploit local advantages in labor production; encouraged people to proactively participate in protecting the border and landmarks, and not listen to bad guys. "When approaching people to propagate, we must seek out reputable people to speak so that people understand and believe, especially those living near the border. If there is a loophole, bad elements can take advantage of it and distort it," Major Bui Van Liet shared.

In addition, the unit has strengthened coordination with functional forces at the border gate to ensure smooth entry and exit activities, maintaining security and order. Information exchange with Cambodian border guards has been maintained effectively, contributing to good management of people on both sides, preventing illegal encroachment and grazing.

Late afternoon, the border gate closed, the border guards continued their duty. The night covered the flooded fields, the soldiers' footsteps were imprinted evenly on the patrol road. The peace at Tinh Bien border today has the silent contribution of officers and soldiers who day and night kept their oath to the Fatherland. Regardless of sun, wind, storms, floods, the soldiers remained steadfast on the front line, keeping peace for the people.
