Manchester United concluded their final home game of the season under manager Michael Carrick with a 3-2 victory over Nottingham Forest in the 37th round of the Premier League.

Speaking on MUTV after the match, Thornley attributed Manchester United's success to the signings made during the 2025 summer transfer window. He specifically mentioned Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesko, and Senne Lammens.

“Last summer, when United weren’t in European competition but still brought in Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko and Lammens, that was truly unprecedented. They all played a huge role in United’s strong resurgence and I think that shouldn’t be overlooked. It was the result of a coordinated effort from top to bottom,” Thornley said.

Against Forest, MU continued to demonstrate their formidable attacking prowess. Goals from Luke Shaw, Cunha, and Mbeumo helped the team secure their eighth win in nine home games under Carrick.

Notably, goals from Cunha and Mbeumo helped them and Sesko reach the milestone of 10 goals each in the Premier League this season. This is the first time in MU history that three new signings have scored 10 or more goals in their first season.

Sesko now has 11 goals, while Cunha and Mbeumo have both reached 10 goals. This achievement makes MU the second team in Premier League history to reach this milestone, after Arsenal in the 2012/13 season.

Last season, MU only scored a total of 44 goals in the Premier League. This season, the trio of Cunha, Mbeumo, and Sesko alone have contributed 31 goals, demonstrating the clear effectiveness of the new transfer strategy.

Given their current form, many believe that with another successful transfer window, MU could very well return to the Premier League title race next season.
