The weather in Thanh Hoa right now is scorching hot. Near noon, the sun intensifies to 40 degrees Celsius, but many groups of workers are still diligently working. Some are cutting pineapples, others are sorting them, and still others are carrying heavy baskets of fruit from the orchards down to the collection point.

"Because of the hot weather, the work is hard, and everyone has to start early in the morning. On average, a group of about 20 people can harvest 20-30 tons of pineapples per day, earning about 600,000 VND per ton," said Mr. Tuong (42 years old).

On the treeless pineapple-growing hillsides, male laborers diligently carry heavy baskets of pineapples down to the collection point on their backs, while the women mainly pick and sort the pineapples.

Sweat drenched the faces and clothes of the workers in the pineapple fields.

Along the roadsides, cars are waiting to receive the baskets of pineapples to be transported to their consumption points.

The hot weather made the work more difficult, but the workers continued working tirelessly to ensure that the peak harvest season was completed on time.

To mitigate the effects of the heat, many households are using tarpaulins to cover unharvested pineapple crops to prevent the fruit from being scorched by direct sunlight.

After being transported to the collection point, the pineapples are weighed and paid for on the spot by traders. Many trucks line up waiting to pick up the goods for distribution to northern provinces and several processing plants.

This year, Ms. Duong Thi Tho's family cultivates about 2 hectares of pineapples. She said that after about 1.5 years of care, the pineapple plants have started to yield fruit. This year, grade 1 pineapples, weighing between 0.7 and 1.1 kg each, are currently being purchased by traders at around 7,000 VND/kg, a decrease of about 30-40% compared to the same period last year.

According to the People's Committee of Quang Trung ward, the locality currently has about 450 hectares of pineapple, with an average yield of about 50 tons/ha per season. Local authorities advise people to apply staggered planting techniques to limit the situation of pineapples ripening simultaneously, which puts pressure on consumption and lowers prices.
