Pharco FC and other Egyptian clubs boycott CAF. |
According to AS , Pharco FC, a club in the Egyptian Premier League, has officially announced an indefinite boycott of all CAF-organized tournaments. Egyptian representatives protested the controversial decision by CAF, stating that they do not accept the "unfair, politically motivated, and unsportsmanlike" approach.
Besides Pharco FC, several other clubs in Egypt and Algeria have also voiced their support for Senegal and criticized CAF, considering the possibility of boycotting continental tournaments. Some major clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns (South Africa) and Simba SC (Tanzania) have also criticized the decision, calling it a "shameful decision".
Previously, the Senegal national team considered the possibility of never participating in African football tournaments again, believing they were being treated unfairly by CAF.
On March 18, the CAF (Central African Football Confederation) decided to award Senegal a 0-3 defeat for their protest walkout during the final of the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON). This decision cost Senegal the 2025 African Cup of Nations title, a trophy they had previously lifted on their opponent's home ground after a 1-0 victory.
The final result was changed to Morocco winning 3-0 and claiming the AFCON 2025 title. The CAF decision caused deep divisions within the African football community, drawing widespread criticism from the international media and experts, who feared it would set a dangerous precedent for future tournaments.
