Breakthrough in processing industry

Implementing Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated January 21, 2021 of the Provincial Party Committee on developing the agricultural processing industry of Son La province in the period of 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030, has created a breakthrough in the province's processing industry, building Son La into an agricultural product processing center in the Northwest region. This is an important premise to realize the aspiration that by 2030, Son La will become an agricultural product processing center in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North.

Priority for processing plants

Implementing Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU, our province has deployed synchronous solutions, such as building mechanisms and policies, integrating support capital sources, developing raw material areas; promoting the transfer and application of advanced science and technology in the production, processing and preservation of agricultural products, connecting agricultural production with the processing, preservation and consumption industry. Prioritizing the development of the processing industry to create highly competitive agricultural products with high added value, ensuring food hygiene and safety, at the same time, contributing to creating jobs, improving people's income and living standards, promoting the development of agriculture , forestry and fisheries.

Form and develop large-scale specialized areas, providing raw materials for factories, with more than 23,313 hectares of coffee; over 5,900 hectares of tea; 10,000 hectares of sugarcane; 44,176 hectares of cassava; 85,000 hectares of fruit trees of all kinds, along with vegetables and large-scale livestock and aquaculture. Encourage and support forms of cooperation, production organization association associated with deep processing, brand building and promotion, consumption of high-tech agricultural products.

The province focuses on planning and building industrial zones and clusters; developing synchronous infrastructure to serve the agricultural processing industry, as a basis for attracting investment. From 2021 to now, the province has attracted investment in 11 large-scale agricultural processing projects; of which, 10 projects have been granted new investment policies. Typical examples are the Doveco Son La Vegetable and Fruit Processing Center Project in Mai Son; BHL Son La Glucose Processing Factory Project in Mai Son Industrial Park; Agricultural Processing Factory of Nafoods Tay Bac Joint Stock Company in Moc Chau district; Moc Chau Agricultural Product Processing and Preservation Investment Project of Tay Bac Agricultural Products Investment and Development Joint Stock Company; Ecological farm complex and high-tech dairy farm of Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company...

One of the factories completed and put into operation in the period of 2021-2025 is the coffee processing factory of Son La Coffee Processing Joint Stock Company. Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Company, said: With the attention and facilitation of the province, the Company invested in building a coffee processing factory with a designed capacity of 50,000 tons of fresh fruit/year. The Company is cooperating with 679 households and individuals to build a high-tech coffee production area in Mai Son area, with a scale of 368 hectares; creating direct jobs in the factory for more than 100 local workers.

Increase the proportion of processing industry

The province's processing industry has developed in quantity and quality; diversified products from industrial crops; processed vegetables and fruits; processed dairy products; processed meat and seafood products... The production scale has expanded, gradually increasing the proportion of processing industry, from raw products to deep processing, creating high added value.

Up to now, the whole province has 19 factories and nearly 600 agricultural processing facilities in operation, with the participation of many prestigious domestic and foreign enterprises and corporations investing in the field of processing, preserving and exporting agricultural products. Of which, 9 large-scale coffee processing facilities, meeting the processing needs of over 50% of the province's fresh coffee output; over 20 tea processing enterprises and cooperatives; 1 sugar processing factory of Son La Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, with a capacity of 5,000 tons of sugarcane/day; 2 cassava processing factories; 4 large factories processing vegetables and fruits; 1 cow's milk processing factory... There are 58 typical rural industrial products at the provincial level; 214 OCOP products with 3 stars or more and 29 agricultural products with protection certificates. The value of agricultural and food products exported in the 2021-2025 period is constantly increasing, reaching 104.1 million USD in 2021 and estimated to reach 208 million USD by 2025. Main export products: Coffee, tea, cassava and cassava products, bananas, mangoes, longans, passion fruit...

Doveco Son La Vegetable and Fruit Processing Center was inaugurated on May 19, 2023, is a modern agricultural processing factory complex, with a total capacity of 52,000 tons of products/year. Recently, Doveco Son La continued to put into operation the paper canning line for vegetables and fruits, with Swedish technology (Tetra Recart) for the first time in Vietnam, with a maximum capacity of 6,000 boxes/hour, about 6-8 million boxes/year. Mr. Pham Ngoc Thanh, Deputy General Director of Dong Giao Food Export Company (Doveco), said: The new line packages many types of high-end agricultural products of Vietnam in general and Son La agricultural products in particular, such as: Sweet corn, pineapple juice, beans... supporting the consumption and export of local agricultural products, creating more job opportunities and promoting the agricultural value chain of farmers, cooperatives of Son La and neighboring provinces.

Aim to become an agricultural product processing center

In the general objectives of the draft documents of the 16th Congress of the Son La Provincial Party Committee, term 2025-2030, it is determined: Rapid and sustainable development, taking high-tech commodity agriculture and processing industry as the center. By 2030, Son La strives to become the center of agricultural product processing in the midlands and mountainous areas of the North.

With high political determination, Son La province has synchronously deployed solutions to achieve the set goals. In particular, focusing on supporting investors to speed up the implementation and operation of projects that have been granted investment policies.

The “Moc Chau Milk Paradise” Complex Project of Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company is one of the major projects, including 2 items: Moc Chau Ecological Farm, High-tech Dairy Cow and Moc Chau High-tech Milk Processing Factory. The provincial authorities and sectors have actively supported the unit to complete the procedures for investment preparation, land, detailed planning, environment, site clearance, and construction.

Mr. Pham Hai Nam, General Director of Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company, shared: The company focuses on implementing the project of Moc Chau ecological farm, high-tech dairy cows, with a scale of 4,000 cows, total investment capital of 1,000 billion VND. Striving to put the farm into operation in the first quarter of 2026 and complete phase 1 in the second quarter of 2026. The project of High-tech Milk Factory, Moc Chau Dairy Cow Breeding Joint Stock Company is divided into 2 phases, phase I (2022-2025), investment capital of 743 billion VND; phase II (2029-2030) investment capital of 1,257 billion VND is being implemented.

The province continues to research and develop policies to encourage and support investment in developing industrial clusters; attract investment in agricultural processing facilities in industrial zones and clusters to handle concentrated environmental treatment; prioritize attracting investment in the field of deep processing industry, especially agricultural and forestry processing associated with building typical product brands and developing sustainable value chains. Promote trade promotion activities, advertise, introduce and connect consumption and export of agricultural products.

With the results achieved in Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU, along with the province's high determination, great efforts, and synchronous solutions, we believe that Son La will turn its aspiration into reality by 2030, becoming an agricultural product processing center of the Northern midland and mountainous region, bringing local agricultural products to far-flung markets and increasing people's income.
