Phan Thiet – a shining gem of Vietnamese tourism – is on a strong development journey, asserting its position not only domestically but also internationally. In particular, the Conference to Appraise the General Planning for the Construction of the Mui Ne National Tourist Area in Binh Thuan Province until 2040, with a vision to 2050, organized by the Ministry of Construction , marks an important milestone in the long-term strategy to make Phan Thiet a leading tourism center.
To ensure sustainable development and a clear strategy, the Ministry of Construction recently organized a conference to appraise the General Planning for the Mui Ne National Tourist Area in Binh Thuan province until 2040, with a vision to 2050. This conference was not merely a procedural event but also a significant milestone in orienting the development of Phan Thiet – Mui Ne tourism towards a professional, modern, and sustainable direction. According to the plan, this area will become an international tourism center, attracting investment in areas such as: high-end resort tourism, with 5-6 star resorts, beachfront villas, and entertainment complexes; marine sports tourism, taking advantage of strong winds to develop activities such as windsurfing and kitesurfing; and ecotourism and green tourism, aiming for a sustainable development model that protects the environment. In addition, it will focus on developing synchronized infrastructure, especially transportation connections such as airports and highways. This conference lays the foundation for Phan Thiet to break through, not only becoming a prominent destination but also rising to the stature of one of the leading coastal tourism centers in the Asia-Pacific region.
On the other hand, one of the key factors in realizing this plan is transportation infrastructure. Phan Thiet is experiencing significant development, notably: the Dau Giay – Phan Thiet expressway is operational, shortening travel time from Ho Chi Minh City to approximately 2 hours. Phan Thiet airport is under construction, opening up opportunities to attract international tourists, especially from South Korea, China, and Europe. The coastal road connecting Phan Thiet with the South Central provinces enhances regional connectivity, promoting economic and tourism development. Well-invested infrastructure will help Phan Thiet easily access a larger tourist base, while simultaneously boosting local economic growth.
Besides infrastructure upgrades, Phan Thiet is becoming a high-end beach resort center with the emergence of numerous 5-star resorts and integrated tourist complexes such as Centara Mirage Resort Mui Ne; Movenpick Phan Thiet; and Novaworld Phan Thiet – a large-scale resort, entertainment, and recreation complex. Large domestic and international corporations continue to invest heavily in hotels and entertainment areas, providing high-class experiences for tourists. These efforts have contributed to a significant increase in the number of tourists visiting Phan Thiet in 2024. The city is estimated to welcome approximately 6.8 million visitors, a 10% increase compared to 2023. Of these, international visitors are expected to reach about 350,000, a 1.7-fold increase compared to the same period. Tourism revenue is projected to reach approximately 16,000 billion VND, an 8.1% increase. These are positive signs, indicating that Phan Thiet's tourism is on the path to recovery and strong development.
It can be affirmed that Phan Thiet is gradually asserting its position on the tourism map of Vietnam and internationally. However, for sustainable and clearly directed development, systematic planning and investment are essential. The conference to appraise the General Planning for the Mui Ne National Tourist Area until 2040, with a vision to 2050, is a significant milestone, opening up a clear and long-term direction for Phan Thiet tourism. With well-planned development strategies, strong investment in infrastructure, and a sustainable tourism orientation, Phan Thiet will not only maintain its position as a leading coastal tourism center in Vietnam but also gradually reach international standards. This city is not only a resort destination but also a place where cultural values, nature, and modern development converge, promising to become a future paradise for coastal tourism...
