Step out of your comfort zone.

Many young people are boldly seeking new paths to overcome their limitations and achieve success.

In 2018, after completing his first semester of business administration at a major university in Ho Chi Minh City, Duong Van Tinh (born in 2000) decided to drop out because he realized that field wasn't right for him.

Find your own path.

The young man from Dong Nai province began his journey of "self-discovery" through real-life experiences. He did many jobs: from serving in restaurants to babysitting, and the milestone was becoming a volunteer teacher in the Central Highlands.

It was during this period of changing living environments and traveling far from home that he realized his talent for social connection and conveying meaningful messages to serve the community. Thus, Tinh boldly resumed his studies, majoring in public relations. After graduating, Tinh was hired as a communications and community fundraising specialist at the Thao Dan Social Welfare Center (Ho Chi Minh City). He is also a member of the Executive Board of DOP – a non-profit organization working in the field of education with the mission of enhancing the capacity of the poor and disadvantaged in Vietnam; for positive changes in behavior and community awareness.

Looking back on his journey, Tinh is grateful to himself for boldly seeking his own authentic path. He is thankful for the opportunities that led him to meet many kind people, full of ambition and noble ideals. His field of study equipped him with the basic skills to confidently venture out and create connections between various groups, from philanthropists and sponsors to the media and beneficiaries.

With expertise in communications and a deep understanding of social work, Tinh realized that many fundraising media outlets often used images that evoked pity, inadvertently demeaning the dignity of those involved. Therefore, Tinh conceived a project to raise awareness among media groups working with vulnerable people. "We need to respect their image and enhance their human dignity," Tinh emphasized.

Change to succeed

At the age of 24, Nguyen Thi Diem Hang (from Ho Chi Minh City) already owns a clothing brand loved by Gen Z, called "Nha Hai Dot" (Two Dot House).

Hang studied logistics and supply chain management – a field her family and friends believed offered her a career advantage. However, after a while, Hang realized that fashion was her true love. Torn between starting a business to pursue her passion or working in her field, Hang ultimately decided to pursue her studies while still not giving up on her dream. In her final year of university, she was busy completing her graduation project while working part-time to save money. Together with her best friend, Hang seriously planned to supplement her knowledge of design, fabric materials, processing techniques, and calculating costs and risks in the production process. "To master everything, you have to hone your skills little by little; don't be afraid of hardship. I believe that these are challenges you need to overcome to find the right path for yourself," Hang confided.

As a young person, Hang understands that choosing clothes is a way for Gen Z to express their individuality. Therefore, she diligently seeks out fresh, unconventional creations. After two years since its launch, Hang's brand has gained increasing acceptance, impressing with its style that combines distinctive Japanese cultural elements with minimalist, slightly classic aesthetics. Not stopping at online business, Hang's products are gradually appearing at notable events.

For Hang, there's no one-size-fits-all formula for success. Young people just need to be responsible for their decisions. "Daring to step out of your comfort zone and daring to change will help us broaden our life experiences," Hang shared.

Listen to yourself

In Vietnam, career guidance education is receiving increasing attention. Equipping individuals with knowledge and developing career orientation skills begins in secondary school. Choosing a profession should align with one's abilities, personality, interests, values, family circumstances, and societal needs. Young people must listen to themselves, avoiding blindly following trends or relying on the advice and guidance of others. Each stage of life presents both challenges and opportunities, requiring flexibility, adaptation, and sound choices.
