At the seminar "Developing Logistics Centers: Connecting and Unblocking Sustainable Supply Chains" organized by the Industry and Trade Magazine on May 29th, Ms. Dang Hong Nhung, from the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ), assessed that the number of logistics centers has increased significantly in scale, and their distribution has also changed.
While there were only about 6 logistics centers nationwide between 2007 and 2012, this number has increased tenfold in the past decade. Currently, Vietnam has 69 logistics centers.
While in the past logistics centers typically served only a single enterprise, industrial park, or province, now there are integrated logistics centers that serve entire industries or regions.
Previously, logistics centers were mainly concentrated in the Southeast region, near industrial zones. Currently, large logistics centers have also emerged in the North and Central regions, such as the Bac Giang International Logistics Center and the Lang Son Logistics Park.

From 2017 to the present, traditional logistics centers have been transformed into modern logistics centers applying Industry 4.0 technology and diversifying in type, including cold storage, bonded warehouses, and domestic warehouses. Some specialized logistics centers serve agricultural products with very high requirements for humidity control and ventilation systems.
However, Vietnam has not yet developed national or even regional logistics centers.
Planning and integration between transportation system planning and logistics center planning still face many shortcomings. Attracting investment and developing logistics center systems is difficult. Incentives are still not specific enough and do not meet the expectations of businesses.
From a business perspective, Mr. Hoang Dinh Kien, General Director of Hoa Phat Logistics, noted that global fluctuations are causing logistics operating costs to rise, while pressure from customers to reduce service prices is increasing. Therefore, modern, strategically-scaled, and integrated logistics centers are expected to become "transit hubs" that help regulate goods flow, minimize costs, and optimize business operations.
The greatest need today is for logistics centers with multi-directional connectivity, intelligent data processing capabilities, and the ability to support logistics businesses in sharing resources.
"We expect logistics centers to be more than just storage facilities; they will be a platform that brings together all needs and products, comprehensively connecting all parties in the supply chain," Mr. Kien emphasized.
Since 2015, the Prime Minister has approved the National Logistics Center Development Plan until 2020, with a vision to 2030.
At the same time, from 2015 to the present, investment in the development of logistics centers has also been included in the list of conditional investment and business sectors and enjoys all the preferential conditions in the Investment Law.
