At the seminar "Developing logistics centers: Connecting and opening up sustainable supply chains" organized by Industry and Trade Magazine on May 29, Ms. Dang Hong Nhung, Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) assessed that the number of logistics centers has increased sharply in scale, and the scope of distribution has also changed.
If in the period 2007 - 2012 the whole country only had about 6 logistics centers, then over the past 10 years this number has increased 10 times. Currently Vietnam has 69 logistics centers.
If in the past logistics centers often only served one business or one industrial park or one province, now there are integrated logistics centers that serve an entire industry or region.
Previously, logistics centers were mainly concentrated in the Southeast region, near industrial parks. Currently, in the North and Central regions, very large logistics centers have also appeared, such as the Bac Giang International Logistics Center or the Lang Son Logistics Park.

Since 2017, traditional logistics centers have been transformed into modern logistics centers applying 4.0 technology and diversifying in types, with cold storage, bonded warehouses or domestic warehouses. Some specialized logistics centers serve agricultural products with very high requirements for humidity control systems and ventilation systems.
However, Vietnam has not yet formed national and even regional logistics centers.
Planning and linking transportation system planning with logistics center planning still have many shortcomings. Attracting investment and developing logistics center systems face many difficulties. Incentives are still not specific and do not meet the expectations of businesses.
From a business perspective, Mr. Hoang Dinh Kien, General Director of Hoa Phat Logistics, commented that global fluctuations are causing logistics operating costs to increase, while the pressure from customers to cut service prices is increasing. Therefore, modern, strategic and integrated logistics centers are expected to become "transit stations" to help regulate the flow of goods, minimize costs and optimize business operations.
The biggest need today is for logistics centers with multi-dimensional connectivity, intelligent data processing, and support for logistics businesses to share resources.
"We expect logistics centers to not only be a place for storage, but also a platform that gathers all needs, all products, and comprehensively connects parties in the supply chain," Mr. Kien emphasized.
Since 2015, the Prime Minister has approved the National Logistics Center Development Plan to 2020, with a vision to 2030.
At the same time, since 2015, investment in developing logistics centers has also been included in the list of conditional business investment sectors and enjoys full preferential conditions in the Investment Law.
