The water levels in the reservoirs have exceeded the dead water level (Thac Ba reservoir is approximately at the dead water level), with a slight increase compared to yesterday (reservoir water level/dead water level). Specifically, Lai Chau reservoir reached 277.74 m/265 m, Son La reservoir reached 178.43/175 m, Hoa Binh reservoir: 102.61/80 m (minimum water level regulation: 81.9 m), Thac Ba reservoir: 46.36/46 m (minimum regulation: 46.5 m), Tuyen Quang reservoir: 95.58/90 m (minimum regulation: 90.7 m), Ban Chat reservoir: 436.77/431 m.
Currently, the water inflow into hydropower reservoirs is changing daily in a more positive direction. Specifically, the water inflow into reservoirs such as: Lai Chau: 255 m3/s; Son La : 507 m3/s; Hoa Binh: 406 m3/s; Thac Ba: 76 m3/s; Tuyen Quang: 253 m3/s; Ban Chat: 280 m3/s.
The amount of water flowing into the Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir has also been gradually increasing in recent days.
Power load decreases
According to data updated on the morning of June 17th by the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0), the total power system load on June 17th decreased by approximately 820.4 million kWh compared to June 16th. Of this, the North accounted for approximately 403.6 million kWh, the Central region approximately 68.1 million kWh, and the South approximately 348.1 million kWh.
The national power system's peak power (Pmax) reached its highest level at 2:30 PM at 38,375.5 MW. Specifically, in the North/Central/South regions, the Pmax values (Pmax/time) were: Pmax 18,535.6 MW (1:30 PM) / 4036.9 MW (2:00 PM) / 16276 MW (3:30 PM), respectively.

Providing information to VTC News , Mr. Tran Viet Hoa - Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority - said that on June 17, 2023, the total electricity generated from hydropower was approximately 165.4 million kWh (of which 63.9 million kWh was from the North), a decrease compared to June 16; coal-fired thermal power generated 462.7 million kWh (285.9 million kWh from the North); and gas turbines generated 91.2 million kWh. There was no need to mobilize oil-fired power plants.
Large-scale grid-connected renewable energy sources reached 65.1 million kWh, of which wind power contributed 21.9 million kWh, Pmax 1,302.8 MW (13:30); solar farm power contributed 43.2 MW, Pmax 6,154.9 MW (12:00).
For coal-fired power plants in the North, the coal fuel supply for production is ensured. Unit 1 of the Nghi Son thermal power plant is currently undergoing troubleshooting. Unit 1 of the Thang Long power plant shut down due to a loss of furnace fuel circulation at 5:11 AM but restarted after 50 minutes of troubleshooting.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from June 18-19, the Northern region will continue to experience intense heat with temperatures ranging from 35-38 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 38 degrees Celsius in some areas. The area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen will experience exceptionally intense heat in some places, reaching 36-38 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 39 degrees Celsius in others.
Following the forecast from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Mr. Tran Viet Hoa advised that the hot weather will persist, leading to increased electricity demand.
"Therefore, people and businesses need to raise their sense of responsibility and promote electricity saving programs to avoid putting pressure on the national power system, especially in the North," Mr. Hoa said.
