Ms. Tran Thi Hoai Phuong's family (village 1 Quang Tho, Vu Quang commune) grows more than 1,500 orange trees, mainly lemon oranges, Xa Doai oranges, mandarin oranges, and pomelos...
For about 2 weeks now, early ripe oranges and lemons have begun to be harvested with high yield and sweet and aromatic quality. Ms. Phuong has sold more than 2 tons of oranges, supplying the market in and outside the province.

Ms. Hoai Phuong shared: “My family selected and selected the first oranges of the season, which were large and ripe. On average, I harvested 500-700 kg of oranges per day. Compared to last year, the area of trees for harvest increased by about 30%. Thanks to the good harvest, the orange yield doubled, estimated at about 50 tons.”
Currently, the price of early season oranges and lemons ranges from 40,000 - 45,000 VND/kg, some types of oranges selected for size and quality range from 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg. This price has increased by about 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg compared to last year, thanks to which, many households are excited and ready to enter the peak harvest season from now until the end of the year.

Ms. Phan Thi Thuy Hang - Head of the Economic Department of Vu Quang Commune said: "The whole commune currently has 692.67 hectares of orange acreage, of which more than 610 hectares are for harvest. Thanks to the care experience of the people combined with the support and companionship of the locality, oranges have become a key crop bringing high economic value in the area.
According to initial assessment, this year's orange yield is estimated at more than 95 quintals/ha, with an output of nearly 7,100 tons. At this time, some areas have begun to harvest, but the peak is from the 11th lunar month to the Lunar New Year.

Mai Hoa Commune is also one of the localities with a large orange area, with about 530 hectares, of which the area for products is about 490 hectares. As a famous orange brand with sweet and fresh quality, early season oranges and lemons quickly "win the hearts" of customers, and the whole season is expected to bring a good income to farmers.
Mr. Tran Van Hoan (Yen Du village, Mai Hoa commune) said: “With 2 hectares of oranges and lemons grown according to VietGAP standards, my family has now begun selective harvesting to sell on the 1st and 15th of the lunar month or according to orders. If last year the output was more than 23 tons, this year I expect it to reach 25 tons. The current price of oranges and lemons ranges from 45,000 to 50,000 VND/kg, which is relatively high, however, my family will keep about half of the output to serve the Tet market.”

At fruit shops on central streets of Thanh Sen ward such as Xuan Dieu, Hai Thuong Lan Ong, Tran Phu, Ha Huy Tap, etc., the first oranges of the season have been "on the shelves". According to the traders, the first oranges of the season are not yet deep yellow, but the quality of the fruit is sweet and fragrant, so the number of customers buying them to enjoy and give as gifts is quite large.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan - owner of Phuong Loan fruit shop (Xuan Dieu street) shared: "About 2 weeks ago, my shop started selling oranges and lemons from growing areas in Vu Quang, Mai Hoa, Huong Khe communes... On average, I sell about 3-4 quintals per day, and on peak days it can be up to 6-7 quintals. Besides retail, I also receive many wholesale orders and gift orders in large quantities. Currently, the high price is fluctuating from 45,000 - 60,000 VND/kg depending on the type. Compared to last year, the price of early-season oranges and lemons this year is slightly higher, the quality is sweet and fragrant, which is an advantage that helps the market consume easily."

Currently, most of the orange acreage is mainly harvested with early ripening orange and lemon varieties. Many households and traders said that from now until the end of the year, cool orange varieties, Xa Doai orange, Thuong Loc crispy orange, etc. will be harvested, contributing to a diverse and abundant orange market, serving the needs of customers.
According to statistics from the Ha Tinh Department of Crop Production and Livestock (Department of Agriculture and Environment), the total orange growing area in the province is over 7,400 hectares, of which the harvested area is 6,100 hectares, concentrated in communes such as Vu Quang, Can Loc, Mai Hoa, Huong Khe... Currently, some orange growing areas have officially started harvesting, which will last until the Lunar New Year. People in growing areas should monitor the ripeness of the fruit to choose the right time to harvest, both to ensure fruit quality and to maintain a stable supply for the market.
