Technology monopolies must end.

At the recent G7 Summit's Accessibility Session in Apulia, Italy, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for an end to monopolies in the technology sector. He asserted that technology must be used creatively, contributing to building an inclusive society, rather than being destructive.

Prime Minister Modi particularly emphasized the role of artificial intelligence (AI). He stated, “We need to transform technology into a driver of innovation, not a source of instability. Only then can we build an inclusive society. India is striving towards a better future through a people-centered approach.”

India is one of the pioneering countries in developing a national AI strategy, with the goal of “AI for all.” Modi stated, “Based on this strategy, we launched the AI ​​Mission this year. We are fostering collaboration among nations as a founding member and principal chair of the global AI partnership.”

According to economists , OpenAI's web data collector is the driving force that gives Big Tech platforms like Google, Microsoft, and Meta—which already control massive proprietary datasets—a significant competitive advantage. These companies can leverage their data repositories to power their AI, while newcomers to AI face limitations.

Researchers recommend close monitoring of AI antitrust, especially as generalized AI begins to be used in more diverse economic applications such as electricity services. Therefore, non-discrimination requirements will be needed so that private monopolies cannot arbitrarily determine who has and does not have access to AI technology.

Otherwise, the price to pay is that a few general AI providers control a significant portion of the entire economy. This could give rise to significant inequalities in the global economy.
