On the morning of June 19th (Vietnam time), after a draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening match, the Canadian team entered the game against Qatar at BC Place (Vancouver, Canada) with great determination. As coach Jesse Marsch had hoped, the home team quickly imposed their dominance and received enthusiastic support from over 55,000 spectators in the stands.
In the 16th minute, Canada opened the scoring when Cyle Larin successfully capitalized on a rebound in the penalty area to give the home team a 1-0 lead. In the 29th minute, Jonathan David doubled the lead with a spectacular volley, giving goalkeeper Mahmoud Abunada no chance to save.
Qatar's difficulties continued to mount when Homan Ahmed received a direct red card in the 30th minute after fouling Tajon Buchanan. Playing with ten men, the West Asian representatives faced even greater disadvantages and conceded a third goal in the 45+3 minute, when Jonathan David completed his brace before the first half ended.
In the second half, Qatar continued to be at a disadvantage when Assim Madibo was sent off after fouling Ismael Koné, leaving coach Julen Lopetegui's team with only nine players on the field.
Taking advantage of their numerical superiority, Canada continuously increased the pressure. In the 64th minute, Nathan Saliba put his name on the scoreboard with a beautiful free-kick, making the score 4-0.
In the 75th minute, bad luck continued to plague Qatar when Mohamed Manai awkwardly scored an own goal while trying to block a shot, giving Canada their fifth goal.
But that wasn't all; Jonathan David completed his hat-trick in the 90+2 minute, sealing a resounding 6-0 victory for the home team.

With his three goals, Jonathan David became the first player to score a hat-trick at home in a World Cup since Geoff Hurst's feat for England at the 1966 World Cup. He was also awarded the Man of the Match by FIFA.
Speaking after the match, forward Cyle Larin said: "We showed the world who Canada is. Many players come from very ordinary backgrounds, but have demonstrated fighting spirit and world-class performance. We've only just begun. The upcoming match against Switzerland is very important, and the job is not yet done."
Meanwhile, coach Jesse Marsch emphasized: "We want to play football that can inspire the fans, showcasing the talent and character of the Canadian team. This is a memorable performance for millions of Canadians."
This historic victory gives Canada 4 points after two matches, putting them at the top of Group B thanks to a superior goal difference (+6), level on points with Switzerland but ahead in the standings. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Qatar only have 1 point each.
In the final round of matches, Canada will face Switzerland in a game that will decide the top spot in the group, while Qatar will meet Bosnia and Herzegovina in a battle for their slim chance of advancing.
