Tax officials will visit business households directly to provide guidance on the conversion process.
Specifically, common forms of fraud include: Impersonating tax officials and civil servants to call, text, or add taxpayers on Zalo, requesting them to install fake software to guide them through tax refund procedures, updating tax identification numbers, citizen identification numbers, business registration certificates, business licenses, and procedures for tax exemptions, reductions, and preferential treatment.
The perpetrators also impersonated the Tax Authority, sending notices and invitations via Zalo to taxpayers requesting them to come in for meetings on topics such as: "Propaganda and guidance for units on tax declaration and payment; implementation of electronic identification for agencies and organizations in the area and application of value-added tax reduction and refund policies." The impersonators requested that "before going to the tax office, taxpayers must declare taxes electronically to receive electronic documents and identification codes to bring for verification."
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong Nga, Deputy Head of the Provincial Tax Department, stated: "The actions of these individuals constitute fraud, impersonation, and the exploitation of the name of the tax authority and tax officials to steal personal information and bank accounts in order to misappropriate assets. The Phu Tho Provincial Tax Department urges taxpayers to be highly vigilant against the actions and tactics of these fraudsters and impersonators."
Upon receiving a notification, invitation, or suspecting impersonation or fraud, taxpayers should immediately contact the Phu Tho Provincial Tax Department at 376 Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, Viet Tri Ward, Phu Tho Province, hotline number: 0210.220.6789, or contact the nearest police station to report the incident and receive assistance.
