Recently, the Criminal Police Department of Ninh Binh Provincial Police successfully dismantled a ring of 16 suspects, revealing sophisticated high-tech fraud schemes targeting gullible individuals.
Accordingly, the scammers' tactics begin by infiltrating groups on Telegram, Zalo, and Facebook, specifically targeting the Free Fire gaming community.
They spend money to acquire high-ranking game accounts to create a credible facade, then proactively approach unsuspecting users. Using the lure of "game boosting" services with attractive daily pay ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 VND, they easily gain the victims' trust.
To lure their victims, the criminal group demanded that those accepting the job use high-end iPhone models, claiming it ensured optimal specifications or facilitated a smooth account linking process.

The key element of this sophisticated scam is the account login request. Once the victim is off guard, the perpetrators provide a strange iCloud account and instruct them to log directly into their iPhone. As soon as this is successfully completed, the attackers have complete control over the device.
Using remote access techniques, the scam group immediately changed the iCloud password, activated the "report lost" mode to permanently lock the device, and simultaneously deleted all of the user's personal data. From an expensive communication and entertainment tool, the iPhone suddenly became a completely useless device, much to the astonishment and helplessness of its owner.

After seizing control of the device, the perpetrators use anonymous accounts to contact the victims and brazenly demand ransom. The ransom amount they demand is not fixed but varies depending on the actual value of the locked iPhone.
According to information from the Ninh Binh Provincial Police, these two criminal groups, comprising 16 individuals, had been operating continuously since February 2026, targeting numerous victims nationwide and embezzling a massive sum of money amounting to tens of billions of VND before being apprehended.
Authorities advise users to absolutely never log into strangers' iCloud or email accounts on their personal devices under any circumstances or enticements. Furthermore, everyone should always remain skeptical of easy job offers on social media to protect their own assets and personal data.
