Fire watch, forest conservation during the dry season.

QTO - Currently, the weather is experiencing exceptionally intense heat across a wide area, with maximum temperatures commonly ranging from 36-40 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in some places, raising the risk of forest fires in many areas of the province to a very high level. In response to this situation, Quang Tri province has activated its prevention and response plans by proactively implementing forest fire prevention and control measures with the motto "prevention is key, firefighting must be urgent, timely, and thorough."

Proactively implement the "4 on-site" plan.

The Quang Trach Protective Forest Management Board currently manages and protects over 11,085 hectares of protective forest and over 1,598 hectares of production forest in the four communes of Phu Trach, Hoa Trach, Trung Thuan, and Nam Ba Don. Since the beginning of the year, the unit has proactively developed a plan to clear undergrowth on an area of 240 hectares; and simultaneously organized the signing of commitments to protect the forest and prevent forest fires with 160 households living near the forest.

Mr. Le Ngoc Duan, Deputy Director in charge of the Quang Trach Protective Forest Management Board, said that under conditions of prolonged hot weather, low humidity, combined with a large amount of undergrowth and flammable materials, the risk of forest fires in the 2026 dry season in the unit's management area is very high, especially in concentrated planted forest areas. Therefore, the unit has implemented a commitment signing program with households and local communities to enhance people's responsibility in forest protection and fire prevention and control. In addition, the unit has also established a forest fire prevention and control steering committee and 8 grassroots forest fire prevention and control subcommittees.

Not only forest owners, but also the Forest Protection Force is now maintaining a 24/7 on-call duty, intensifying inspections in key areas such as coastal forests, forests near residential areas, and places where fires have previously occurred; regularly monitoring forest fire warning information on the early warning system and surveillance camera system to promptly detect, coordinate, and mobilize response forces.

In particular, the Provincial Forest Protection Department and its subordinate units have advised on the consolidation of the steering committees for the sustainable forestry development program at all levels; strengthened the forest fire prevention and control task forces at the grassroots level; reviewed and developed forest protection and fire prevention and control plans based on the "four on-the-spot" principle. At the same time, they reviewed, prepared estimates, and proposed funding for the repair and restoration of dilapidated forest protection and fire prevention and control structures such as fire watchtowers, information boards, forest protection stations, and equipment serving forest fire prevention and control work.

In addition, local forest rangers proactively set up checkpoints, patrols, and guard posts in key areas prone to forest fires, strictly controlling access to areas at risk of fire, and resolutely dealing severely with those who violate forest fire prevention and control laws.

Because of the green color of the forests

According to the report of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, in 2025, the province experienced 5 forest fires, with a damaged area of 8.68 hectares of planted production forest (a decrease of 20 incidents and 29.95 hectares compared to the same period last year); 13 fire points were promptly contained and extinguished by mobilized forces and equipment, causing no damage to the forest.

Currently, due to the widespread intense heatwave and the high level of forest fire warnings, the Forest Protection Force, along with local authorities and forest owners, are focusing their efforts on forest fire prevention and control with the goal of preventing forest fires or, if an emergency occurs, controlling and effectively handling it as soon as possible.

The total forest area of the province is 841,224.04 hectares, of which 596,230.89 hectares are natural forests and 244,993.15 hectares are planted forests; the forest cover rate is 61.47%. In 2026, Quang Tri province aims to plant an additional 22,800 hectares of concentrated forest and 3.5 million scattered trees; the output of timber from planted forests is expected to reach 2.2 million m3, with an average yield of 21 m3/ha/year for the main planted forests. At the same time, the province is determined to reduce the number, scale, and area of forest fires and violations in the forestry sector to the lowest possible level.

Mr. Nguyen Van Duan, Deputy Head of the Provincial Forest Protection Department, said that this year's dry season is predicted to be even more severe, prolonged, and complex in the coming period. Therefore, the Forest Protection force has been closely coordinating with localities, forest owners, people, and relevant units, focusing intensely on forest fire prevention and control, determined to protect the green of the forests. At the same time, they regularly advise people not to use fire to clear undergrowth, burn beehives for honey, or carry out other activities that pose a risk of forest fires during the intense heat. When a forest fire is detected, people should quickly notify the nearest authorities or local government.

In order to proactively and further strengthen forest fire prevention and control measures, and minimize the number of incidents and damage caused by forest fires, on April 7, 2026, the Provincial People's Committee issued a directive requesting departments, agencies, localities, and units to strengthen the implementation of forest fire prevention and control measures in the province, considering this a key task and absolutely not being complacent, negligent, or losing vigilance.

Fire prevention and control has become a top priority for the entire political system, from the provincial level to the grassroots. Besides the proactive efforts of functional forces and local authorities, the province urgently needs support from central ministries and agencies in increasing the allocation of investment resources, construction, and the provision of infrastructure and logistics for the forces involved in fire prevention and control.
