The Mekong Story – Challenges and Dreams

On March 30, 2010, the exhibition "The Mekong Story - Challenges and Dreams" opened at the An Giang Provincial Museum. This is a traveling international exhibition within the Southeast Asian Cooperation Program (MuSEA) - Cultural Heritage for Sustainable Development - funded by SIDA, in collaboration with 15 agencies in 4 countries: Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Sweden. Through 9 interwoven stories from the voices of the past and present, the exhibition painted a colorful picture of life along the Mekong River.

The exhibition is captivating in its modern design style by Swedish experts, from the arrangement influenced by installation art, the combination of artifacts, quite lively audiovisual media, and a modern approach.

The exhibition " The Mekong Story - Challenges and Dreams" will be displayed at two locations in each country, beginning at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology from November 25, 2009 to February 25, 2010, followed by a display at the An Giang Museum from the end of March 2010 to June 2010. The exhibition will continue its journey through Cambodia, Laos, and finally arrive in Sweden in 2012.

Also on March 30-31, 2010, an international seminar was held at the An Giang Museum on the implementation of the project, approaches to developing exhibition content, and educational programs through exhibition implementation, presented by experts from Vietnam and abroad. The seminar was attended by Dr. Le Thi Minh Ly, Deputy Director of the Department of Cultural Heritage. Many professional exchanges between museums in Ho Chi Minh City, museums in the Eastern and Southwestern regions, and project experts were recorded.
