Taking care of people's well-being

By studying and following the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh, many grassroots Party branches and committees in the province have promoted the spirit of unity and strived to effectively achieve the goals of socio-economic development and sustainable poverty reduction.

Early in the morning, Mr. Danh Vu Hoang, residing in Binh An hamlet, Vinh Binh commune, was busy preparing his tools for a construction project. His wife also hurried to the fields to work as a hired laborer. Life still presents many difficulties, but for the couple, this is the most peaceful and happiest time of their lives. Just before the New Year, their family received a solidarity house from the commune. Mr. Hoang emotionally said, "If it weren't for the local authorities' concern, my family wouldn't know when we would have had our own house."

His family consists of five members, who previously lived with his mother in a cramped house. They had long desired to live independently, but their financial situation prevented them from doing so. Their meager wages barely covered their daily expenses, and building a house seemed beyond their means. The house they received as a gift just before the New Year helped his family celebrate the holiday more happily.

Besides providing housing for disadvantaged households, many other hamlets in the commune are also focusing on investing in infrastructure, creating a foundation for sustainable development. In Hoa Thanh hamlet, the previously muddy dirt roads have been paved with concrete. Temporary wooden bridges have been replaced with sturdy ones, making it easier for people to travel and transport shrimp and rice. Children no longer have to wade through mud to get to school, and the elderly can go to medical check-ups with greater peace of mind.

Party Secretary of Hoa Thanh hamlet, Quach Van Phen, shared: “The Party branch determined that to improve the lives of the people, we must first improve infrastructure. We mobilized the people to work with the government to build roads and bridges, donate land, and contribute labor. When the benefits became clear, the people showed great consensus.” Thanks to this, during the past term, the entire hamlet built four new rural traffic bridges costing nearly 2.3 billion VND and a nearly 2.4km long concrete road, contributed by the people and businesses, with a total cost of nearly 3 billion VND; and dredged 5.3km of inland irrigation canals. Models such as “Lighting up the countryside,” flower-lined roads, flagpoles, green fences, and incinerators were widely implemented in self-governing residential groups, contributing to changing the face of the rural area.

In Bo Xang hamlet, Vinh Thuan commune, after receiving support from the local authorities twice in obtaining bank loans for pig farming, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ba has achieved sustainable poverty alleviation. “Local leaders regularly visit, encourage, and guide me in my business. I feel I haven’t been left behind,” Ms. Thu Ba said. Huynh Ngoc Nguyen, Deputy Secretary and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Vinh Thuan commune, affirmed: “The locality always adheres to President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching: ‘Whatever benefits the people, we must do our utmost to do.’ Therefore, each official and Party member proactively understands, listens to, and closely investigates the lives of the people to develop support plans ranging from livelihoods and housing to caring for their spiritual well-being. Thanks to this, the average income has now reached over 65 million VND per person per year; the poverty rate has decreased to below 1%.”

According to local residents, the shrimp-rice farming area of Mien Thu has undergone significant changes in recent years. Incomes have increased steadily, the number of poor households has decreased considerably; temporary houses are gradually being replaced by sturdy ones; village roads and alleys are clean and beautiful, and cultural life is richer. Mr. Ly Hong Dien, residing in Kinh Nam hamlet, U Minh Thuong commune, happily said: “Before, this area was very poor. Now it's different; houses are spacious, and roads are convenient. Officials are close to the people and care for them, so the people have great trust in them. The achievements come not only from sound policies, but also from the sense of responsibility and dedication of the officials and Party members in studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings. They always consider caring for the people's lives as their top priority.”

Through concrete and practical actions at the grassroots level, the study and emulation of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings in the province has become increasingly profound, creating clear changes in socio-economic development, improving people's lives, and strengthening people's trust in the Party.
