We visited Heroic Vietnamese Mother Vo Thi Xung, residing in Vinh Hoa commune, whose two sons were martyrs. In her house, built by the government in 2016 as a gesture of gratitude, she displayed numerous certificates of recognition from the Fatherland, medals for military achievements, resistance medals, and many commendations for five martyrs – her brothers and two sons… She recounted the fierce war, the times she bid farewell to her husband as he left for his liaison duties, the days she sheltered and protected revolutionary soldiers, and the tragic news of the deaths of her two sons, whose graves have yet to be found. Mother Xung said that although heartbroken, she is proud that her two sons sacrificed themselves for a great cause, for national independence, freedom, and peace…
Meanwhile, the family of Mr. Nguyen Van So (son of a fallen soldier), residing in Vinh Binh commune, said that previously, the family lived in an old, dilapidated house and lacked the means to rebuild. Recently, the local government provided 70 million VND to build a house of gratitude, and the family contributed additional funds to construct a new, clean, beautiful, and sturdy house. Now, the family has settled down, living happily, together, and in a warmer atmosphere. “Not only did we receive support for the house, but the government and organizations also visited, encouraged, and helped us. I am very grateful to the Party, the State, and the local authorities,” Mr. So shared.
Over the years, the Party committees and local authorities in the communes have consistently identified the work of showing gratitude and appreciation as a regular and continuous task, linked to the political responsibility and traditional moral principle of remembering one's roots. From supporting the construction and repair of houses, providing healthcare, to visiting and giving gifts during holidays and festivals, all have been carried out promptly and appropriately by the localities.
In 2025, Vinh Thuan commune will have 224 people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution receiving benefits according to regulations, totaling over 7.5 billion VND; 54/54 houses will be newly built or renovated for people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs; and 6 people who rendered meritorious services will be sent for health rehabilitation. Vinh Phong commune will pay 179 people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their relatives nearly 5 billion VND; 25/25 houses will be newly built or renovated for people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their relatives of martyrs. Vinh Binh commune will pay 311 people who rendered meritorious services to the revolution and their relatives over 10.6 billion VND...
According to Huynh Ngoc Nguyen, Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Thuan commune, after the two wars of resistance against French and American aggression, the U Minh Thuong base area had many families with 2 to 5 children who were martyrs. Some families sent their only or last child to answer the sacred call of the Fatherland. There are families where two generations served in the army fighting against the French and the Americans...
The work of showing gratitude and appreciation to those who have rendered meritorious service to the revolution and their families, linked to social welfare, has always been a priority for local authorities. Various levels of government, sectors, and organizations have launched and maintained numerous activities to express gratitude and appreciation, creating a positive impression in society. Typical examples include the movement of showing solidarity and support for Vietnamese Heroic Mothers until the end of their lives. Local authorities also regularly review and gather information on policy beneficiary families and those who have rendered meritorious service to the revolution who are facing difficulties, in order to provide timely and appropriate support.
Currently, Vinh Hoa commune has only one Heroic Vietnamese Mother, Mother Xung, so the commune pays special attention to caring for and supporting her, considering it a sacred responsibility and expressing deep gratitude for her immense sacrifices and contributions to the revolutionary cause and national liberation. The commune also reminds local officials to regularly visit and monitor her material and spiritual well-being and health, providing timely support and encouragement whenever she is ill or facing difficulties.
It is precisely the care and attention given to families entitled to preferential treatment and those who have rendered meritorious services to the revolution that has contributed to strengthening the people's trust in the leadership of the Party and the administration of the government today.
